Alright, this might sound a little dumb, but a couple of my friends have pretty much gave me a challenge... To make a deconstruction of a genre. Now, while it sounded 'fairly' simple at first, I quickly came to the realization that I kinda have a little bit of trouble finding the Genre that I want to deconstruct. The reason why is because, well, I've never really written a story like that before. In fact, I'm not even quite sure how I should exactly sure how I go about it.

So, I came to here, hoping to find maybe some help on this... I don't really know what to ask though haha. The challenge ends on June 20th so I got awhile to do research and such, but I wanted to get a start on it as soon as I could.

I should put something clever here...

pick your favorite saturday morning cartoon, just replace all the heroes with real people with real lives, and let them do their thing.

romantic ties lost in a blaze of glory? check. forever depressed from the stress of saving everyone? check. ruthless villains willing to do ANYTHING to make the hero want to kill themselves? check.

works with any type of story really. just replace everyone with regular normal people.

[up]While the above sounds more like "replacing everyone with depressing people," ultimately you've got the right idea. "Deconstructing" is mostly just a matter of taking the accepted and fleshing it out.

Pick your favorite genre, you'll know enough about it to make a good deconstruction.

Personally, I have trouble not deconstructing any genre I try to write, so I'm not sure what other advice to give.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

Try Power Rangers as a Work Com? That should get you started easy enough.

You should deconstruct one of those Hentai stories where the heroine is pretty much broken and enslaved by the end. Have it so that her defeat pretty much dooms the rest of the planet because no one can stop the Eldritch Abomination that will be attacking soon.

[up]That idea is quite enticing, but I kinda have to keep it clean. The whole point of the 'challenge' is a birthday present for one of my friends. She likes 'Deconstructions' so my friend decided to make it more interesting by making it into a challenge between he and I.

A hentai deconstruction sounds good, to me at least, if I do what you said, but that doesn't really seem quite appropriate to give to a girl who is turning eighteen.

But I do think Ettina's idea would be perfect on the other hand, to take a genre I like and flesh it out. Which would be Rom/com or Survival horror... ;-,,- I wonder how I would go about deconstructing those...

Deconstruct a sports movie, showing what people have to actually do to succeed in sport without montages, a snooty rich kid team and a wise mentor with a troubled past.
