Okay, I'm going to try and phrase this in a way that doesn't come off as whining. I'm currently in the (slow) process of writing a 5-part Naruto fanfic, a childfic from the crack pairing of Sakura and Hinata. My main problem is that I made the main character a Mary Sue without realizing it (or even what a Mary Sue was). Not to mention all the blatant Author Appeal, which, in retrospect, was not my smartest decision...

I got hit with some writers block early on in book 4 and wound up looking back to the first two for some ideas, maybe some Chekhov's Guns I'd left unfired. Unfortunately, what I found instead was a sticky pile of nigh-unreadable mess that I'm fairly embarrassed to be called the author of.

So, my questions are three: 1) Is it worth the time to try and re-write the first installments, or should I just move on? 2) If I should re-write, what would you change? (A quick overview is fine, you don't have to go nuts) 3) If I should move on, do I finish the series (currently updating once every few months as writing slides in and out of priority) or do I abandon it and try something new?

No one believes me when I say angels can turn their panties into guns.

You might want to write something else.

IMHO, fanfiction is just the beginning of a writer's journey. It's about time you step on to original fiction when you begin to wonder whether you should do a rewrite.

I agree with Argeusthe Paladin. You sound like you've started taking your writing seriously, which is a great thing.

If you want to rewrite it, rewrite it but I'd agree with the previous two posters.

Only you can tell whether it's worth your while to rewrite it. If you think it is, go for it. Rewriting your old stuff will help you develop your writing skills. Likewise, only you know whether the story is good enough to be worth continuing, or whether you should dump it or try something else.

Finish the series if you feel it has a large enough and respectable enough fanbase. Otherwise, move on to something new- you sound like you really want to.
