God of War: Ragnarok coming to PS5 in 2021.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."-stares at God of War PS 4 gathering dust in the corner-
So he faces Thor at the end, right.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).So I've heard all sorts of praise for the remake or reboot or whatever it is. About how it's more mature or with the times than the original.
Do you long-terms fans feel that way? Do you think the original GOW trilogy have aged badly?
It's a sequel, they directly reference the events of the first set of games in it.
The original God of War was made by a widely different writing staff than the entries onwards, and it shows. GOW 1 was a straight up Greek Tragedy told right, and the sequels changed it up to a wild roaring rampage of revenge that made it very hard to sympathize with Kratos as he LITERALLY destroys the world. Sure the Gods were dicks too but no excuse.
Kratos in the New GOW is a man who has been scarred and terribly regrets the person he used to be, and is much wiser for it. Since he has a son now, he has to also make sure he doesnt follow that same path he did.
For the longest time, I've always considered Kratos to be bar none the most overrated character with some of the flimsiest defense the fan would argue with.
It wasn't until Dad of War that I was beyond shocked that how likable he became. I never thought I would all those years I followed Kratos that I would ever find him to be a likable character. What a concept.
Kratos is probably at his most villainous in the beginning of GOW II. It's the one time he's deliberately targeting people who have never done anything to him personally. He was doing the exact same thing Ares was doing in the first game.
Heck, he's even wearing armor that's similar to Ares' as a sort of Evil Costume Switch.

Disgusted, but not surprisedGood writing can do wonders for a character, who knew.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The irony is that while he causes the most damage in GOW III, he's not actually doing any of it on purpose. It's just that the targets of his Roaring Rampage of Revenge are Fisher King gods whose deaths lead to bad shit happening everywhere.
Notably, at the end when he finally notices what's happened to the world due to his actions, he's regretful and decides to do something to help the world recover.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe writing evolved with the player. As an 18 year old playing the first few games on the PS 3 (the remastered duology) I just loved the violence. As a 25 year old playing god of war 4, I liked the character development and that Kratos actually evolved as a person.
They're different beasts; the first trilogy was fun but the character's weren't really likable after Game 1 (thanks Pandora for making Kratos grow up.)
As an aside I rather liked Ascension because Orkos (like Pandora) is one of the few truly noble people in the franchise, and his death was a genuine gut punch.

I mean, they're in Ancient Greece
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).You say that, but one of my older brothers was not quite happy with the latest game - the world had "too much busywork" for him (which is arguably a problem with a lot of modern AAA titles) and he didn't like the axe you spend a large part of the game using as your main weapon.
I was sitting next to him when he finally got the Chaos Blades and he was pretty happy about it.
Some people enjoy some uncomplicated over-the-top violence in their games.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.I am hoping they add some more weapons and improve the camera for Ragnarok.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And in a move everyone saw coming: Ragnarok has been pushed back to 2022.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."And another move that will surprise absolutely no one, Ragnarok is also coming to PS4.

Together, we are one."Our supply is shot and is being scooped up by scalpers, so here's a more accessible version."
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Ragnarok footage. Finale of the Norse saga.
Damn the finale already.
Also that girl at the end may be the wife of Loki.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's confirmed on twitter. In keeping with the Composite Character nature of the games, I'm wondering if she's from a different mythology. I'm thinking that's somewhat likely since she's black.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midMaybe from Egypt or Nubia? Tyr did visit there. There are some pretty tropical locales seen in the trailer.
Secret SignatureI like that they took some of the first games critiques to heart.
Like more enemy variety and even a town full of civies so not everything you meet is trying to kill you.

Our first look at Thor's appearance in GOW:Ragnarok.
I think this is a good design that is more similar to Thor's original description in Norse Mythology rather than going with the MCU Thor design that is probably everyone's first thought when thinking about Thor.

When it's not a troll reskin or a Valkyrie fight, the bosses of this game are great.
