To him, godhood is like a disease that was thrust upon him without any choice on his part, and the side-effect of that disease is rage. He has this god side and this human side, two things that were never meant to coexist together, creating this incredible rage. In that previous era of games, he was the Hulk all the time, 24/7, because he didn't know how to be Bruce Banner. And in this iteration, the son is teaching him how to be human, it's bringing out that closeted humanity that he stamped down for so long.

...I don't like the way he phrases that. It sounds like blame-shifting.

Yes, Kratos absolutely does have a disease. It's called rage addiction.

[up] "I'm a rageaholic! I'm addicted to rageahol!"

I like to think he's talking about letting that rage go.

You can't "let the rage go". For a rage addict, it isn't a specific thing. Somewhere, deep down, the addict goes out of his way to find things to get angry about. The addiction is always there below the surface, always urging him, searching for its next fix.

That person sleighted you! No, he wasn't just saying hi. Did you hear the tone in his voice? He wants to start something. He doesn't respect you.

No? Well, that woman was awfully curt with you when you said hello. She doesn't think of you as a man. She needs to be shown her place.

No? Fine, be that way—that kid just took your wallet! The NERVE! Get him! Chase him down! You got him! Now hit him! I don't care that you got your wallet back, he needs to learn! Hit him harder! REALLY SHOW THIS MOTHERF*CKER WHAT YOU'VE GOT! RARRGHH HAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS THE BEST HIGH!!!!

Ah, that felt great. Oh, shit, people are staring at you because you broke that kid's skull in half. Hey, don't look at me. I got what I wanted. The inevitable terrible consequences, that's on you.

[up] Well it'd be nice to see that addiction, something which the writers admitted took over his character, be addressed in a way where it can be controlled, since it will be there due to his nature.

I can't say for sure either way. We have a trailer of a guy with a history of anger problems trying to be a dad. To a degree, it works. The question is what happens next.

Oh, yeah, I'd love to see it addressed. They made great first steps with Kratos realizing that he, Kratos, is the problem in the end of GOWIII.

I just don't like the way he attributes the rage to something that divinity did to him. It makes me worried that they're going for a cop-out. "All his anger came from being a god, so now that he's not a god anymore, boom, rage fixed."

He was not the God of War when he incinerated an innocent man who was begging and pleading for his life to solve a puzzle. When he threw the ship captain down a hydra's gullet just to prove to himself that his dick was bigger. Hell, he wasn't the God of War when he sold his soul to Ares to enhance his murdering skills and then blamed Ares for showing up to collect.

Kratos's character flaws predate his divinity.

I wonder if they are going to embrace the core spirit of Norse mythology - we all die. But even knowing one is going to die, you make it as fucking glorious as you can. You go out fighting.

That seems like a fitting end for Kratos, tbh.

would be pretty hilarious if Thor shows up as an enemy in this. Especially since it would mean Kratos has fought two characters that appeared in Marvel comics.

Thor's guaranteed to show up at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if they reserve him for the Norse Mythology finale like they did with Heracles in the Greek Mythology portion.

There's gonna be sequels, Kratos is gonna bring Ragnarok, then he'll probably move on to Egyptian Mythology or something.

It is? Honest question as I know very little of Egyptian myth.

its also one of the few with an official God of Evil thats always trying to killing EVERYBODY

Basically the Egyptian pantheon is so wrapped up in maintaining the relatively fragile ecoculture of egypt and dealing with said god of evil, they only really smite the mortals when they honestly deserve it

and even then they tend to try to patch things up later

IE what happened with Sekmet/Hathor

...So Kratos is now fighting Odin? k.

Now we just need him to take a vacation to Egypt to face off against Anubis and the like.

I can't help but wonder if the Pandora's Box plot point is going to still be in motion in the new pantheon or not.

The idea in III was that when Kratos opened Pandora's Box way back in the first game, all the evils of the world escaped and infected the gods which resulted in them turning their backs on humanity and becoming cruel or callous or paranoid, etc. etc. It was yet another in the myriad ways that everything bad in Kratos's life is Kratos's fault.

When we meet the Norse gods, will they too be infected by the evils of Pandora's Box? Or was it just the Olympians?

okay, to be fair to Kratos, He was told to open the box and use the power up to kill Ares

So the Olympians were taking a calculated risk there

Didn't the death of each god symbolize something about their corruption and the plague they released? There were seven evils in Pandora's box according to the legend IIRC. Don't remember how well that corresponded to the gods that Kratos killed, and what happened afterward.

Thank fricking god.

That was a terrible decision and they knew it. Hated Ascension's gameplay, but the multiplayer most of all. The only kick I got out of that was your character being the warrior Kratos freed during the story mode.

There wasn't one in Ascension either.

Or the phone game I think. I really want to know what was up with that plot really.
