This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

As someone else said very few indie creators hit the big time. Even the current crop of current critical darlings over at Image have a lot of people who cut their teeth doing Marvel and DC work that got them recognized.
Not everyone is gonna turn out to be a Brian K. Vaughn or Matt Fraction.
Just the same, we're seeing more Image projects getting optioned for TV and movies, and I think we're going to see a lot more Image comics actually get adapted. I mean, Sex Criminals has been optioned as a TV show.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.See, the Image comic that I really, really want to see on television is Lazarus. So much great worldbuilding and awesome characters.
Books getting cancelled at DC and Marvel is nothing new. comics are a niche medium, even the ones by the big two. they need every sale they can get. comics can and have been cancelled over low sales there. someone has to get paid and DC and Marvel isn't going to keep putting out comics that lose them money. that's just basic capitalism.

Over in Secret Wars, Three weeks have passed, Peter and Miles have been despatched to the White Room and talk to the Molecule Man. Peter and Miles proceed to argue over an eight year old hamburger Miles has in his costume, which Molecule then eats
And over in the newspapers, MJ wants Peter to use his resources as Spidey to get her close to Namor so she can play good-will ambassador and convince him to stop sinking ships. I'm loving this more proactive take on her character

That little banter between Pete and Miles was pretty funny.
I liked ASM #1. My highlight was Peter neutralizing the Zodiac poison so efficiently. That was really cool, and logical. I hope to see more like that from him.
Also "Kraven's nipples called, they want your face back" was a great line. It's not calling that guy "Kraven's nipple" it's referring to that vest Kraven has always worse that had lion faces that basically just covered his nipples. Again, great line.
One really big praise I do have for the ANAD ASM is that Peter's definitely not being a giant man-child anymore. Brand New Day hit us a little too hard with "Peter's a jobless loser ha ha ha!"

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I sort of still think Peter came off as a man-child in this issue ( his fly being open at the press conference, making the "great power" speech into a commercial tagline, the jokes at the start in the Mobile), which is par the course for how Slott usually writes him. Only time he sounded like an adult was in the 2099 back-up strip.
I wasn't impressed with the fact it took him eight months to call out Sanjani on her crap, and still doesn't fire her

Read Spider-Island#5, nice to see The new outfit for Mayday is a decent attempt to amalgamating the traditional outfit with Ben Reily
Okay, yes, he still did stupid stuff like leaving his fly open (GOD I can't get over how awful that "joke" was...), but he's at least running a company and starting an Uncle Ben Foundation and whatnot, so he's more of a mature adult than he was at the start of Brand New Day.
...Of course, that doesn't change the fact that I'm getting really sick of Dan Slott and am beyond ready for some other writer to have a turn with Amazing Spider-Man.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. So, I assume the new Dr. Stillwell is somehow related to the original, who they had previously given a brother who also specialized in superpowers.
Dan Slott has done the impossible and actually gotten me onboard for a 616 Peter book. I'm liking that this direction is actually doing something different.
And the banter between the two Spider-Men and Secret Wars effing killed me.
To the very least, I at least like that Slott acknowledge the "Poor Man's Tony Stark" stigma that the book currently has. I'm hoping for the best.
Also when was Hobie Brown last seen? I thought he died but maybe I'm thinking of someone else.
Stilt-Man's wake, I think.
Secret Wars: Spider-Island #5: R.I.P. Agent Venom And hello, Dino-Thor.
Oh, and Mayday's new costume looks a lot better.
Mayday's outfit is based off an older design Ron Frenz had for her, and apparently it was going to be Benjy's outfit in a flash-forward back when Tom originally planned to end the Spider-Girl series
Can someone link to her new costume?
So next week DC are going to release their answer to Renew Your Vows, Lois and Clark, and it looks pretty good actually.
Quite interesting how the element of Secret Wars that carries over into the mainstream canon from RYV is the villain, and the element that carries over from Convergence into the mainstream canon is the family dynamic. Like DC and Marvel having the same notes but doing the opposite of each other
So psyched for the new direction for the Spider-comics.
I like Peter as the Poor Man's Tony Stark. I'm less positive towards the Spider-Mobile and hope we won't be seeing much of it in the future. Also, hiring a substitute Spider-Man makes perfect sense to me but the 2099 preview makes me wonder why he didn't hire Miguel to be Spider-Man instead of Hobie. Even Hobie doesn't think Hobie makes a very good Spider-Man.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Peter should clone himself and use the clone as his stand-in. What could go wrong with that plan?
Well, from what the 2099 back-up story from the launch issue tells us, Miguel wants to distance himself from the pressures of being a Spider after he almost lost it against a crook for shooting an innocent girl dead (I think)

Why not Life Model Decoy Spider-Man?
Is the last member of the MVP Scarlet Spider team still alive? The one that was part of The Initiative before he ran off with the Exiles? They could use him since he's already tried filling in as a Spider-Man replacement.
oh god no
do not let this thing be a thing
