Looking over many of my stories, I realized that I could be drifting into Ryona territory what with many of my female characters getting injured in some way. Sure many of my male characters get battered and bruised and bloodied but compared to the lead heroine (some of whom actually lose limbs and such) it's only half that many. It's probably because seeing a guy suffer that kind of injury in fiction just doesn't have that much of an impact on my as seeing a gal go through the same thing. That's the reason half my lead characters are female. Unlike most Ryona, though, my heroines don't cower in fear when being hurt. They fight through the pain and can at least get away because I like bravery and heroic will power. It's somethign I find admirable. So, should I be worried about this or not?

You are one sexist pig Sand.

Not really, so long as it ain't "Gorny".

Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.

Ah, well that could be a problem as well as I'm a fan of Gorn, being a zombie nut and all. Granted in my zombie stories everyone and everything gets ripped to shreds.

As long as it isn't sexualized you should be good. Women getting hurt/mutilated/killed in the service of the story can be seen as a form of equality. After all, guys have been chopped to pieces since the dawn of storytelling. Just avoid Women In Refrigerators.

As for women getting killed in zombie fiction; It has always strained my suspension of disbelief when the chicks always get "clean" deaths next to the dismemberment of the male red shirt.

Then I'm in luck: I don't have that many refrigerators to stuff! But yeah, this is what some could call Author Appeal because I do find it appealing.

Know your audience. If it's blatantly sexualised and you're looking to appeal to general readers, cut it/tone it down. If it's not blatantly sexualised, you're probably safe. If it is, but you're writing for people who share your fetishes, just carry on - but for God's sake give people fair warning beforehand.
