Yes, that was a nice cameo he got. He's up in a watch tower, ironically. Like in the OS :D I think we'll definitely see him again.

All right, so I liveblogged the pilot episode.

But, here's the only part that counts:

Final thoughts

Earlier, I predicted this show would be awful.

I find myself eating my words.

When I started watching, I was biased by both my love of the original and being tired of the constant stream of remakes America craps out like babies in a lower-class family. When I liveblogged Voltron Force everything so annoyed me that it basically became a game of finding out what else I could comment on, and I went into Thundercats thinking it would be mostly the same.

But Thundercats was different. The more I watched, the more I found myself actually watching it, and almost forgetting about this liveblog altogether. It was genuinely an interesting experience. And if the first episode is any indication, it keeps some of the things I love about the old series while mixing in new themes that actually work quite well. If I was going to make any complaint at all, it would have to be that this new series has a rather generic fantasy premise. But even typing that line, I’m like “Is that really the only thing you can come up with?” It’s not even worth trying to take a gem and make it look like a turd. The only thing that could possibly go wrong now is if the later episodes absolutely suck, and I think–-hope-–that isn’t gonna happen.

I never quite followed through on my words and watched more episodes of Voltron Force. I just didn’t care enough to work my schedule around it. This, though, I might very well find the will and the time, because this pilot started a train and I really want to see where that train ends up.

I guess I’ll tune in for those new episodes next Friday. I won’t liveblog them though–I’ll just try to enjoy them.

Loved it. I think the pacing seemed a bit too fast, but not too bad. I really liked it. Can't wait for next Friday.

My nostalgia has been upheld.
Really liking the art style, by the way. The mounts look pretty sweet.
I was almost sad to see Snarf couldn't talk. Almost.

Cheetara's new outfit makes more sense than the one she had in the 80s.

That ending was awfully rushed. I came back after the commercials and I thought I was seeing a sneak peak of the next episode.

I missed the first episode, so I caught it later tonight.

Oh.

My.

Frickin'.

GOD

That was so awesome, with the fighting and the lizards and the muscles and the awesome dialogue and it was just so great, I'm going to catch every single new episode when it comes out.

Also, MUSCLES.

I liked the fast pace toward the end. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

[up]Favorite awesome dialogue of the episode: "Clerics, to the death." Hell yeah.

The various animal!people were also very well designed. The only character who didn't really pop to me was Mummra and he hasn't powered up yet, so that's ok.

The twins seemed... better.
Maybe because I hated the twins as a kid, I don't know. They seem likable now, though.

Also, Thundercats introduced Clerics that were friggen bad ass.

Snarf was adorable.

The orignal made me think of an old man for some reason. >XP

Also, the twins sounded familiar. Did they ever do any voices on Avatar The Last Air Bender?

Something about this version of Mum-Ra made me think a bit: Everyone is an animal. Is Mum-Ra a human? Lizard? What exactly is he?

He is probably an animal but he's too decayed to tell what kind.

[up]I've seen it suggested that Mumm-Ra might be a Cat like the Thunderians OR he could be a Bat.

I really like how Mumm-Ra was animated, all gangly and creepy faced.

I can't find the name of the actors for the Kits. Does anyone know or see their names on the ending credits?

Some random thoughts...

Anyone notice that thus far no one has called the Thunderians "Thundercats" yet? I know that in the original it was a title reserved for Thunderian nobility, but thus far the term has only been used to describe the Thunderian's legendary ancestors, the ones who tamed the planet and "first defeated Mumm-Ra." The lizard folk just call them "the Cats."

I'm finding Lion-O a lot more likeable, a lot more interesting, than he was in the original series. I'm hoping Tygra get's some good character development soon, ala Prince Zuko in "The Southern Air Temple;" he was always my favorite character in the first series, and I can't imagine that they'll keep him as a straight jerk. Though when Lion-O told Tygra that "I hope I don't grow up like you," my wife pointed out "That's a snotty thing to say to someone who just had your back," referring to the fight with the mob at the stocks. I thought character development was a tad thin here, but there WAS a lot to introduce and exposition to get through, and they do have a whole season ahead of them. The writing was ok, though I felt some of the lines could've been a bit punchier. These are nitpicks though; overall I was impressed and intrigued. I'll definately be back for more!

[up][up]I was going to add their voice actors to the character page, searched around, couldn't find them. Weird.

[up]I remember it was something like "The Thunder Cats were the ones..." similar to if you said "The Humans were the ones..." but I could be mistaken.

Yeah when they aired the old episodes earlier this week I thought Lion-O was really childish, brash, and not very smart. I like the updated version much better.

Doubt Cheetara's going to help with the sibling rivalry. I hope Tygra becoming less jerky and the group coming together is done well, it could easily be handled poorly. I have high hopes, though.
