Wow. I have serious problems with the way America is run, but this is just Critical Research Failure. Admittedly, the poor are screwed here, but there is no 'culture of cruelty'. Most Americans are as nice as anyone of any other country if not more so. Kills me how people think they know everything about a country by listening to political debates.

My name is Cu Chulainn. Beside the raging sea I am left to moan. Sorrow I am, for I brought down my only son.

Maybe they still beat them in Texas or someplace.

No. Private schools do.

Speaking of which, is it just my imagination, or is there a trend among this type of political extremist to lay the problems of America/the world at the feet of some sort of antagonist? Like right-wing nutballs blaming everything on some vast progressivist conspiracy, while left-wing nutballs blame everything on corporations and the military?

Of course. Many people seem to need an enemy, real or imagined, to define themselves.

@deboss: To my knowledge, not nearly enough private schools would do that or a enough people going to private schools to make that a general issue, especially one in reference to the formal juvenile system.

Well he's talking about WWII when the Chinese bomb pearl harbor and they commuted suicide by running their planes into the ship.

It's pretty much non-existent at that point.

That was stupid.

I never saw racism at my public school, at least not from the institution itself. It was pretty much neutral in the matter of color, then again, I did go to a pretty decent public school.

I hate both sides, I hope they eventually radicalize and implode to the point of where a moderate party steps forth and has a fighting chance, as grim of a hope as that is.

I mean shit, hardline liberals think they can just hug all their problems away, and hardline conservatives just want to shoot all of their problems.

Compassion when it works, gunfire and executions when it doesn't. That's my campaign platform. We'll try the nice way first, and if that isn't solving the problem or gaining any ground, we're going to do things the mean way. Either way, we will deal with those fucking problems. It's kind of like offering an olive branch in one hand, and giving him a hard left cross with the other if he doesn't accept it.

[up] Hm. That strikes me as wasteful.

Meh, I believe in being expedient in dealing with our nations problems. One way or another, at least then they are taken care of.

It's kind of like if you're at work and your boss says "I don't care how you do it, just fix it."

You do it the easy way first, if the easy way doesn't work, you do things the hard way because the issue needs to be resolved regardless. I just hate inaction, and it's even more wasteful to just throw kindness at problems that kindness won't fix. You're wasting kindness, and the problem isn't getting solved.
