Funny you should ask that, because while I don't play much pokemon, I actually gave myself a very similar challenge when I was starting to get bored playing Diablo2.
Except, rather than pokemon, it's weapons and armors. I just never ever repair any of my weapons and armors, when they break, I drop them and only use whatever I pick up on the ground. And I'm not allowed to use spellcasting, and if I use bows, I can't purchase arrows.
PS-no holding onto equipments to replace the ones that break as well. They must be picked from the ground after one of yours are broken first.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."You know, I've never played Diablo, but I'll have to remember that when I do. Sounds fun!

You can't think of every Self-Imposed Challenge yourself. Sometimes you need a friend to discover some great new way of looking at the game.
Ever heard of the Nuzlocke challenge for Pokémon? That's basically this concept. Somebody thinks of a Self-Imposed Challenge that's new, fun, and interesting, and people follow. The same can be done with achievements. You look at the list of what you don't have left, you see something intriguing, and you find that it's a lot more fun than you have imagined.
