Toriko's Forkspam and Sani's Hair Thingy Attack were both great. Not that sold on the other two, though. Coco seemes like he won by the power of exposition and Zebra resorted to a punch, which to be fair is still pretty damn awesome but I kinda expected more from him.

Now that the limbs are dealth with, I guess it's time for the main course body?

OK. So I read a few chapters of this to see what the hubub was about. Um... the first few chapters are pretty lame. I assume it gets better, but... how far in is that?

You haven't gotten past the Garara Crocodile Arc.

The true fun starts in the first true story arc, the Regal Mammoth arc.

I stopped when I got to the candy house. I just kinda threw my hands in the air and had to stop for a while.

I love Toriko's Candy house, actually.

It's supposed to be an over the top series, even by shonen series standards, and is all about power-up food and the characters growing progessively stronger by evolving their Gourmet cells.

In fact, the beginning of series pales in comparison to later arcs, and you barely have met any of the main cast by this point.

Yeah, I get that, but so far all I've got out of it is a stupidly strong guy, some really immature jokes, and some stupid concepts. There's some promise with the giant monsters and what have you, but the poop jokes and the dude pissing himself and then the candy house. It was just too much.

Like I said, the beginning of the series doesn't get into any real strong stuff yet.

I don't care how strong the stuff gets. I'm basically wondering if it ever steps up from that low-brow humor.

Well... The bad Japanese food puns never go away, but I honestly can't think of any events that come close to matching the stupidity of the poop stuff.

There's very little toilet humor. There is some once every blue moon though. Would the food that smells like shit count as that?

The poop humor is very early on, and it's very rare aftwerwards.

In fact, I think the anime removed them almost completely.

Well, they did keep in Terry Peeing, but Terry is a wolf, though.
