I wouldn't even call the original Donkey Kong Mario canon. I mean, carpinter called Jumpman= Not Mario
I can't stop listening to thisBut that's where the design and name Mario came from, the American version of DK.
Mario and canon? That's the problem right there. You could argue that Mario's stork in Yoshi's Island proves he's not from Brooklyn, but most people really don't care for any kind of organized Fanon theories. As for what's canon? The game developers don't really care either.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackAdmittedly, I too once thought that the Mario Bros. originally being from Brooklyn was only something invented by various adaptations, but in a very recent interview, Shigeru said it was all his idea. (It's the same interview which revealed that in the development stages of Super Mario Bros., Mario was packing heat! O_O!)
I'm pretty sure the Mario brothers being form Brooklyn is canon. Or rather, some vague semblance of canon in the Mario games, so I don't think that counts as a Gannon banned thingy.
When All Else Fails, you have fun and flirt wit da ladies, dats da Drawings way!Mario packing heat...
^ Since according to the interview, the fire flowers idea evolved from Mario with a gun, yes. :p
Alright, who deleted that bit of info from the article?
-_-. There's more than one page of that article. The gun part was at the very beginning of the article and I linked to like, page 7 or something.
^No, i'm talking about the part saying that Mario and Luigi aren't from Brooklyn in the games.
Did somebody get into a flame war about this?
Troper PageOK, now I confused. Are you talking about the article I linked to, or the Mario TV Tropes page?
He's talking about the Mario TV tropes page.
Ah. Okay.
Does it actually matter?
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.
Recently, i added an entry to the Super Mario page in it's Gannon-Banned entry, saying that the origin story where Mario and Luigi come from Brooklyn only applies to the cartoons and movie, but one poster contested this, claiming that the first Donkey Kong was apparently set in Brooklyn. I think Donkey Kong Land debunked this, showing that the city Mario fought DK in was part of Mario's world to begin with (that and the fact that Cranky Kong is the original DK Mario fought in the first place) but i'm not entirely sure.
Thanks to anyone who helps with this. I'll appreciate it.
