So... was this a planned visit? I wonder if she's going to miss Sandra and this is just a chance to get her to see a different supporting cast.

Also, do recall a recent post of mine reminding that when they worked together, Sandra was in Didi's shadow, and now she's a model.

I imagine it's mostly a chance to (a) take a regular character away from the usual locations for the duration of a guest story, so as to ensure a bit of a sense of separation, and (b) renew the friendship between DiDi and Sandra, who hadn't seen each other for a while.

Plus, we find out if Parisians fall for DiDi's "cute" colonial accent.

... Um, guys? The new MA3 strip is a guest strip. AFAIK those aren't canon and have never affected the main story.

Sandra on the Rocks totally started off as a guest strip, you know.

Look again. It's not a guest strip. It's a guest artist.

Yeah. Guest writers are allowed to do weird stuff that doesn't affect canon. Guest artists tend to be allowed to illustrate slightly skew snippets of story that may well still be part of the canon narrative.

No guarantees either way, but there's nothing obvious yet about this plot thread that makes it unlikely to be canonical.

Anyhow, second guest art strip is up. Once again, we are reminded of the existential tragedy of DiDi's condition.

... OK, this is either noncanon or the timelines have once again become quite desynched between MA3 and SOTR. Or Kiley is dreaming the whole thing.

The timelines are crazy desynched. SOTR is several months behind on strips.

EDIT: Or they were. They jumped from March to July. I guess they realized they'd never catch up?

This guest-artist strip was promised - and I imagine very likely scripted - months ago. The chance of the timelines being in perfect synch is laughably small.

Anyhow, for all we know, SotR-Sandra will be flying back to Paris within a couple of hours.

... You'd think Sonya would've made a "breast implants" comment when she first saw DiDi. Then again, maybe it happened off-screen.

... Good question. I actually forgot what her name was... and somehow forgot that we already have a "Sonya" back in Montreal.

And the person just before me just referred to Sandra as Sonya, possibly adding to your confusion.

... Let me take a wild guess: Lavali will turn out to be one of those lesbian stereotypes who cannot stand the sight of naked male genitals and thus will comedically try to claw her eyes out in the next strip after the initial shock passes.

Regardless of predictions, the actual strip was hilarious. Fortunately, somehow I didn't even look at the last panel until I'd read it, so I got the full surprise too.

Judging by her expression in the last panel there, she's more exasperated and irritated than horrified.

That might be the initial shock.

That's not how shock is expressed in the face. Sandra is confused, and Lavali is irritated.

Lavali's expression seems more of utter "WTF!"-kind-of-disbelief, since Sandra guaranteed her that she'd "never seen a more breathtaking sight" (implying that what she'll see is something good).

That's the way I took it, too.
