Five bucks says we'll now cut to them beating the crap out of each other.
A caring relationship can still express itself with rougher sex. They could just be more honest.
Or, first panel of next strip will be them spitting out the bad taste and going "never doing that again."
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThe background visual FX in the last panel look like comics symbolism for "genuine emotional moment" to me.
Note that discovering a genuine mutual emotional connection doesn't render either of them automatically smart, sane, or stable.
= Spindriver =Subverting graphical symbolism for comedic effect is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It can go either way.
Ma3 doesn't, as a rule, go in for fancy technically subversive stuff. What you see is what you get, mostly. It just subverts the idea that good things can only happen to good people.
= Spindriver =How is the "oldest trick in the book" considered "fancy technical stuff"?
Also, this comic has done the 'subverting graphical symbolism' thing plenty of times. Usually it's in the third and fourth panels of a strip, not stretched out across multiple strips, but still.
And the passion experiment backfires.
Ok, who let Light Yagami in here?... Well, not necessarily. It seemed to be genuinely working up until the third panel ended.
Good news: A step in the right direction. Bad news: Kiley underestimated their denial issues.
... Maybe she should sit with each one on her own, and keep pestering her (in a pseudo-psychologist way, of course) until she gets to the root of the girl's hatred for the other girl, then help them work the hatred out?
Also, new SOTR, with obligatory underwear warning.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That was... writing for the trades.
Read those two strips side by side, and it works as a single-action punchline.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIt's not really writing for the trades when it's an almost-daily comic strip. The format is inherently limited.
TCampbell has said that 80% of these strips will end in a comedy punchline. It's kind of old-fashioned that way. Tuesday was evidently one of the 20% exceptions; it ended in a d'aww moment instead. But yesterday's strip reverted to comedy, and gave the scene a punchline.

= Spindriver =New Ma3 strip. Progress is a complicated concept.
= Spindriver =Casting a new light on previous events.
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise. So Kiley was wrong after all?
She maybe over-simplified a little. But she was right about them not really hating each other, on the deepest level.
That last panel is really very sweet. This looks like the beginning of a genuine and beautiful friendship.
= Spindriver =Well, there's a subplot I'm quite happy seeing resolved.
New Sandra and Ma3 strips are up. Both feature a little possibly-NSFW semi-nudity, so I won't link.
Friendships are strange and unreliable things in the Ma3 universe...
= Spindriver =Sonya, Yuki, I don't think Kiley wants you to reach "that level of anrgy again" in the first place.
... And what's with Lavali? You'd think she'd be more worried about being in the middle of nowhere with possibly little to no way to return home than being naked in front of a girl.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Will that make Yuki angry? When she broke up with Gary, she told him to go and have sex with Sonya. And when Sonya tried to provoke her about it Yuki didn't react at all.
Maybe not angry with jealousy, but she'd definitely be angry that Sonya is literally fucking around in the room they're supposed to be training their musical skills in.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. They're in Sonya's apartment, not the studio.
Well, she'd be upset that Sonya is literally fucking around instead of coming for practice, especially since Yuki herself isn't getting any from any guy.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
Well at least, since she didn't immediately pass out from hydrocution, now she's fully awake.
