Repeating my question out of curiosity—why do you feel the need to have a traditionally feminine girl appeal to boys in particular?

Because boys who don't like to take after girls because "they're girlie" bug me.

Ah. Well. It's one thing to hope that your work will appeal to multiple demographics, but you can hardly hope to change the fact that the first character boys look up to is not going to be a traditionally feminine girl.
