@Sayaka: huh, this was unexpected, I didn't think Urobuchi would want her to look even worse... Well maybe it's just an exaggeration.
Apparently there's a reason Madoka could so easily declare Homura her best friend over Sayaka.
(Novelisation isn't Urobuchi so you could declare it noncanon, but I thought it would be amusing in light of what was previously discussed.)
You will not go to space today. And I thought Madoka couldn't lower any more in my estimation.
WELP.
The baby bat/ Screamed out in fright,/ 'Turn on the dark,/ I'm afraid of the light.'Amusing...Madoka is more complex in the novel and also Homura. No wonder they are attracted to each other.

I don't think that really fits with Madoka's characterization. She does particularly care about Sayaka
Obviously Madoka cares for Sayaka and Hitomi, but I believe in the novel she questions what is a "True friend" and the meaning behind that.
Personally, I don't require me-centered timeline hopping and homoerotic spacehugs from my true friends.
Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong?
The baby bat/ Screamed out in fright,/ 'Turn on the dark,/ I'm afraid of the light.'Yup. You'll never be god that way.
Nah, let's put it this way a true friend is the one who is with you in the good and bad times ,and also doesn't give up on you...dang that sounds corny.
x3 You have to increase your standards.
To be fair, mere proximity and spending time together and having conversations don't necessarily engender close relationships, but. Not exactly what I expected.
It's kind of harsh to demand this from people though. And a bit arrogant to expect that you deserve this. But I guess that would mean Sayaka doesn't fit the bill since she was mean to Madoka just because despair was taking hold of her soul?

You will not go to space today.Read more charitably, Homura and Madoka are best friends because they're so similar, as shown by the way they have similar thoughts about friendship categories and not knowing where the distinctions go.
Madoka has that kind of purposeless directionless ennui that in some times and places created emo. So I guess things could have been worse.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAlso known as "being an unassertive 14 year old".
‽‽‽‽ ^These are interrobangs. Love them. Learn them. Use them.Huh? No, For example Madoka was a true friend on Sayaka because she was there for her when everything went to hell, you don't demand this to people it just happens when you are friends.

With too much time on her hands and her material needs being well met.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersA true friend is someone who sticks by you through everything, and sticking with people just happens when you're friends—isn't that a bit circular? Is friendship a thing that's defined by the sacrifices you'd make for each other, or is a willingness to make sacrifices just something that tends to come with friendship (meaning friendship is defined by something else)?
And we're not talking about how good of a friend Madoka was, it's the other way around. I was being flippant there though.
You will not go to space today.Yeah, it's called "scene" and involves many other colors as well, plus drinking and even SHITTIER music. If that's even possible.
The baby bat/ Screamed out in fright,/ 'Turn on the dark,/ I'm afraid of the light.'A quick google search seems to indicate that its possible.
Wait, really?

Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell now you see why Madoka was so troubled about this topic ...It's complicated and very subjective topic but I believe that "In prosperity it is very easy to find a friend; in adversity, nothing is so difficult" by Epictetus.

Scene kids aren't emo, they just look emo.
‽‽‽‽ ^These are interrobangs. Love them. Learn them. Use them.x3 I've actually gone through that phase already. Wanted to see if you had an answer, since you were trying to make assertions about friendship. That bonds of friendships can break under more strain isn't new knowledge, but that quote seems to be using a different criterion for friendship than the one you posited. The quote seems to indicate you would still be considered friends in good times, it's just that it breaks (or just doesn't form?) under adversity; if you define friendship as something that overcomes adversity, then instead you'd say you were never true friends in the first place.

You will not go to space today. As I said it's a very subjective topic, but to be honest in my opinion friendship is almost always tested in adversity...It's the way of the world, Dang now I feel bad.
Funnily enough, MS Paint Adventures is not actually made with MS Paint except for the first page of Jailbreak because it was too hard to get good quality using Paint or something. Neither is SBAHJ (if you can count that among MS Paint Adventures) because Hussie found he couldn't get it shitty ENOUGH using MS Paint.
So really MS Paint is a certain level of shitty that is never really the right level of shitty.
