So, yesterday I finished reading The Last Run just find that Amazon had finally delivered the first DVD of The Sandbaggers.

I watched the first two episodes and might I just say: awesome.

If you don't know what this series is about, imagine James Bond. Now, it's nothing like that. In fact, it's probably the exact opposite of Bond - most of the episodes take place within stuffy offices and hallways, only a small portion out in the field. But the plots are intricate and gripping and watching them unfold is wonderful.

Of the first two episodes, probably "A Proper Function of Government" is better: Neil Burnside is shown to be more manipulative, the bureaucracy more stifling. There's one car chase and that lasts all of ten seconds and the big climax is actually just two guys talking. But it's awesome.

I watched "Is Your Journey Really Necessary?" and "The Most Suitable Person."

"Is Your Journey Really Necessary?" is perhaps one of the bleakest episodes of television I've seen. And quite a good example of Shoot the Shaggy Dog. And then the title sums up the entire episode with a bow tie, too.

"The Most Suitable Person" was interesting. It's nice that Burnside doesn't care if his Sandbagger is a woman, as long as she competant. But man, he can be cold sometimes. The female Sandbagger, Laura, looks to be a nice addition.

Now I have to go and order the rest of the episodes, darnit.

I recently discovered this series through the magic of Netflix's recommendation system, and I really enjoyed it.

The Author Existence Failure happens at an incredibly unfortunate time, though.

132 is the rudest number.

"First Principles" is episode where the awesome page quote comes from. And the situation that made Burnside say it? Totally warranted that quote.
