The only list I can find is a breakdown of the lifespans of purebred monsters. Is this the list you were referring to?

Rarity determines how high your breeder rank has to be to mix a monster or get it from a CD, barring any event-based prohibitions. I haven't really looked for a general correlation between abilities and rarity, but I'd be a bit surprised if there were no relationship.

Go to Monster Rancher 2 -> FAQ: The Most Important Game Data -> Specific Lifespans of All Non-??? Monsters. (You can't link to specific subpages on that site, sadly.)

Although it doesn't list them, I can still tell you that there are no naturally immortal monsters. Sorry if it's a disappointment; I know I wouldn't mind easy immortality. sad

Ah, Monster Rancher Metropolis. I love that site. If it weren't for that, I'd still be waiting for my monsters to get tired or sleepy to use mint leaves or rest.

My old monsters didn't live very long.

You know what monster type I miss? The Gali. It was one of only three monsters to be cut in the transition from the first game to the second, along with the Monol and the Magic (which was replaced with the Bajarl) and it was probably my favorite non-rare type in the game.

Although a bit ironically I never owned a purebred Gali. The two disks I used for making Gali types produced a Warrior (Gali/Golem) and a Milky Way (Gali/???,) so I never bothered to make a basic Gali.

Oh, wait, apparently there were also "disk" and "doodle" type monsters, but I never managed to find those. I didn't use online resources back in the day of Monster Rancher 1.

Gali was in the second game, i think as a FIMBA monster you had to earn. Could be wrong, though.

The second game actually does have Galis and Monols. Galis are a locked breed, but I think Monols just require a bigger barn. The third game in the series did cut them, though...

But the recently-released DS game, and the second Advance game, have both!

Now Arrowheads, man, I miss those in the console games...

I suppose I might be misremembering which game they were cut from; I know there were monsters I was frustrated to find weren't available in the third game.

Monster Rancher Metropolis doesn't list them among the available monster types in the second game though, although it does list the Monol.

Edit: It seems it was left out of the monster type list, but appears elsewhere, so I guess it's just a mistake.

I miss the Undines from MR2, myself. Nowadays they're just used as a Pixie subbreed instead of their own, separate breed. Which is better than disappearing completely, I guess, but then again, they didn't get to show up in the DS version as their old selves, and that might've been part of it...

And it's silly, but I also miss the Evil Hare monsters — the Hare/Monol mix from the first two games. I was so disappointed to find out they didn't let you get that mix in the new DS game — you can make a Furred Wall (Monol/Hare), but not the other way round? Sigh... At least MR4 had the Spyhare special, which was basically 'Evil Hare IN A SUIT', but still...

Also, the Jokers sure have changed a lot from what they originally looked like, haven't they?

The changed Jokers don't really bug me too much, as I prefer Evil Mask to Evil Clown. I can take a mask more seriously. I wish they'd bring back more Joker subbreeds, though, as it seems Jokers got too highfalutin' around 3 to dare be sub-breeded by anything.

I guess the first Advance game has a few (if they are palette swaps) and the DS game has... some. A very few some.

I really feel like playing this again.

Only part I hate is when your monster is in the "baby" stage. Low stat gains, tired every other week, blah, blah, blah.

I'm the kind of breeder who forces monsters through training they hate. I have the wallet to stuff them with enough Sea Angels and Honey Shrooms. XD Pixies do pretty well in Attack stuff if you can push them in it, though. I mean, they actually learn a fair number of POW attacks. I haven't trained one enough to know, but do they still have the big scary claw attack in this game?

In that game, I think I'm currently raising a Phoenix/Joker hybrid. IIRC, I was trying to raise a junk monster so I can combine a good Zan with my Nunchuks.

I should start raising my Beaklon again in that game. I suddenly realized I liked Beaklons in this game. Since my Campanella (Pancho/Piroro) suddenly developed a hatred of Honey Shrooms and it made it hard to keep its training style "Even."

Honey Shrooms and Sea Angels are the highest level Fatigue and Stress recovery items, respectively. They don't appear in the shop until you've advanced the ranks a little, but they can be won in a couple tournaments, and found on some Errantries. ...We are still talking about the DS game, right? XD

Super useful items, they are. Also so powerful, you only need to give one every once in a while!

I wish there was an item in this game called a "Phone." And I'd get seven of them... and one Banana Ring.

[up][up]I think you have the numbers flipped there, Freezair. Just sayin'.

More on topic, I'm having a freakin' awful time with the errantries in MRDS, or at least the part where I'm supposed to go places to make stuff happen. Between the wonky controls and the equally wonky wall-collision detection... eeeeeeeww.

@Tin: No, it's supposed to be like that. So instead of "Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring, Banana Phone!", it's "Phone Phone Phone Phone Phone Phone Phone, Banana Ring!"

I got the "getting old" warning for my Pancho in DS, so I'm training a Hengar right now. I love Hengars, but not their hybrids, generally.

Hengars. Always with the Hengars.

I need to look up how to make them let me make Hengars. I have a tradition of using Hengars.

I also like typing "Hengars".

In the DS game, it's pretty easy:

You need to be past Year 7. In August, guide a B-rank or better monster over to the tree on your farm. Get in the right area and a yellow crystal will appear. Guide monster to it. Fight Hengar. Win. Unlock.

That unlocks both Hengar at the shrine and gives you a Hengar Doll that you can use to combine a purebread Hengar.

Nagas are awesome. They look like nagas should.

Actually most monster rancher monsters are just that. So many different series put their own goddamn spin on different monsters that often just end up screwing with what makes them awesome. You want a Phoenix? There! A flaming bird! You want a golem? There! A dude made out of rock!

Plus they have enough original monsters to give the series their own original flair. Best of both worlds. in more ways than one.

Bleye knows Sabers.
