Though seeing alder on a Surfing Buffalo pokemon is pretty cool.

People and Pokemon alike are quick to abandon each other in Special!Unova, I've noticed.

So wait a minute, N is saying he wants Pokemon to battle each other? The hell?

It's a bit different here. N acknowledges that Pokemon enjoy battling and that it's necessary for them to do so in order to naturally grow. However, he still believes that humans mistreat Pokemon, ignoring their true desires and shutting them up in Pokeballs, so the two different groups should be separated. That's why it's okay for him (and as an extension, those who serve under him, ie, the rest of Team Plasma) to use Pokemon, because he can hear their thoughts and feelings.

That said, I can't wait for N to meet Yellow, because I have a sneaking suspicion that he has a superiority complex over his ability to understand Pokemon. Meeting someone else who has the same power as him but has a completely different mindset due to it should knock him down a few pegs.

That makes N so much easier to agree with, then. Because it's canon that Pokemon like to battle, so Team Plasma always seemed like PETA to me (Completely stupid, doing more harm then good).

Yeah, color me unconvinced. I'm really not seeing anything here that would explain N's complete turn around in philosophy besides the fact that it allowed the author to have N go after White and force some drama in there. Between Gigi's abandoning White coming right the hell out of nowhere and White's exagerated reaction just to being told Gigi likes battling, the entire chapter just felt really frigging contrived.

That, and N's dislike of pokemon battling makes a lot more sense as a character trait because battling really does have the potential to become abusive if it's taken too far. The flaw in N's reasoning was just that all pokemon battles are like this. It's also more interesting because it challenges the mindset of the viewer/player/reader that battling is automatically the best way to interact with their pokemon. Comparisons of pokemon battling to cockfighting by detractors are pretty common, and it was actually an interesting move on the part of the game writers to address this. By comparison, Spe!N's "Keeping pokemon in pokeballs or whatever is horrible! Oh but battling is good and you should do it" really lacks oomph.

It doesn't really make any more sense as a villainous goal either. Team Plasma are kind of supposed to be hypocrites. And what exactly does Ghetsis have to gain by telling people pokemon battling is good? He's just going to get a bunch of pokemon trainers in the face when he tries to rise to power that way. I'd like to think he's not that stupid.

It also says volumes about how flat the pokemon in this series are that they apparently all like battling, no exceptions, to the point that it overrides their desire to do anything else and their loyalty to their freaking trainer.

N can talk to Pokemon. He'd have to be really fucking stupid not to realize that battling is what they exist for.

Well, actually, looking at Ghetsis's first speech in the manga, he never made any claims whether or not battling was okay. He said that something along the lines of them being creatures humans can never fully understand, so that they should be freed in order for them to grow to their full potential. Nothing about them needing to battle there.

And quite frankly, N in the games never had a problem with battling. He never said outright he had a problem with Pokemon themselves fighting. It was always about people mistreating them and confining them in Pokeballs. At one point he says he's sad his friends got hurt, but that's how a battle works.

Considering she got away with only a few bruises for falling off a Ferris Wheel, I guess White qualifies as Made of Iron now!

Body wise, at least. She's still shooken up emotionally, though.

Exactly. And if he hated ALL battles, why the f**k would he battle you all those times in the game? Because he knows that pokemon have instinct for battling, so whatever random pokemon team he's assembled at the time, he lets battle. I was against how needlessly violent N was in the first chapters he appeared in, but the way he was portrayed here was perfectly in character.

Because he was using it as an excuse to talk to/get to know your Pokemon. He even explained that he was battling you to talk to them ingame. That and look up his battle quotes, they explain perfectly why he's battling you.

N accepts that Pokemon like to battle even if he doesn't like the idea of them getting hurt. That simple.

Back to the new chap, huh, what's White going to fight with? Hope not that dick Servine, though a chapter taking place in the near future reveals that she's borrowing Black's Braviary while traveling separately from Black.

The Viloent Tomboy said that N stated that he's sad his friends got hurt, but that's how a battle works. He doesn't LIKE to battle but that doesn't mean he won't. If he was 100& against pokemon battling, he wouldn't let the pokemon battle at all. Period.

I know that about N. He knows that pokemon have instinct to battle and he will have them battle when he deems it nessecary. But that means that he DOESN'T hate battles 100%. He hates it that humans MAKE pokemon fight and the WAY in which they do it. It's not about the battles themselves, it's about humans deciding the pokemon's actions (when, why, and what they battle) for them.

People are honsetly under the assumption that N is an absolute retard if they seriously think he belives pokemon shouldn't battle each other at all. And that he's that much of a hypocrite to hate all pokemon battles yet have an entire plan that hinges on him battling and defeating the champion! N may be immature and hypocritical at times, but he's alot smarter and more rational than folks give him credit for.

Except that he doesn't. Because it all boils down to the simple fact: if N really, REALLY hated battle 100%, He. Wouldn't. Battle! It doesn't matter if he just says "I regret having to battle" or "I hate seeing my friends getting hurt". His actions show that he's willing to let pokemon battle each other because he knows that's in their nature and if he tried to restrict them from battling at all, he'd be no better than the trainers he's against.

Yeah, um, just because N acknowledges that Pokemon like to battle doesn't mean that Pokespe's twisting his entire character around just to give him an excuse to go after non-action girl White is any less retarded.

Think of it this way: N can talk to Pokemon. If they really existed for nothing else but battling, you'd think he'd have figured that out by now. But he hasn't. Could that maybe be because, I don't know, they aren't just single-minded battling machines like a good deal of fans seem to think? I mean, what makes you think that they enjoy battling to the exclusion of everything else in the first place? The games have told us that, yes, but we've never really gotten inside a Pokemon's head. N, as someone who can understand Pokemon, is saying that what we've always believed about them is wrong. And maybe he's not entirely right either, but he's giving us a window into the minds of Pokemon, telling us that maybe they just don't think the way we though they do. And that's why he was such an interesting character in the games. It wasn't that he was "right" or that his ideals "made sense". It was that he was giving us a view that had never really come up in the Pokemon games before. Pokespe basically killed this for some cheap drama. And seriously, what's the point in having a character tell us something we already know?

Because no wanting to waste time repeating myself makes me a troll. Really.

And no, you can hate something 100% and still do it/participate in it yourself. N outright states that he's not battling because he wants to but because he has to and that he doesn't like it. What part of that do you not get?
