It has been nearly a year since I saw Erica at the old theater on 3rd Avenue. The stories I heard had told me that she had died in a fire that had gutted the theater many years ago. From what I could see of the ghostly memory was that her entire side had burned in the fire. According to various historical accounts of the theater, people have disappeared and it was suspected that Erica got to them.

"Erica?" I called out, my voice shaking. She turned to look at me with her one good eye and I was overcome with such horror that I had to look away. When I looked back she was gone but I heard a voice.

"Don't remember me," it said, "I don't want to exist."

"Is there some business that you never completed and you want to do it in peace?" I asked. She suddenly reappeared before me with a ghastly glare upon her tormented face.

"No," she snarled, "I just want to disappear and the only way I can do that is for those who know of me to forget me. As long as my stories are told and enough people believe them I will continue to haunt this place."

"Is this why you killed those people?" I instantly regretted asking the question as she let out a horrific scream.

"I didn't want to kill anyone," she yelled, "but some people are just too stubborn to be trusted with a secret!"

"Are you going to kill me?" I asked in a tiny voice.

"As long as you swear not to tell anybody."

After that, she vanished and I fled the theater, never to return. Later that week I looked through the official records and found that there were no records of a girl named Erica who worked in the theater at the time the place burned down. It's almost as though she never existed and the ghost I saw was just a phantom memory forced into existence. It's hard to tell and thus I have kept my promise of not telling anyone about Eri

This is brilliant! :)

I love how it's up to interpretation.

The idea and execution both rock.

I like this, but I think the way it's written is too matter-of-fact (of course, that might be what you're going for). I don't know, but maybe you could try slowing the pace down, adding a little description, maybe making the narrator a little rambling or confused? I think that could add to it.
