Jay spotted the nearest still operating camera. She pointed her wand and muttered ""Incendio."''

"This really cannot get worse." she muttered quietly.

Several muggles passed by her, looking fearful as they her escorted out of the perimter. She watched them then followed as they left through the entrance. Curious to the sirens and yells from outside she peeked her head out.

"That wont do, just blind them, they're made so they can withstand a lot of stuff, throw some mud at it, and stick it in." Lita sighed... at least now she could tell people she'd been shot in the back.

"Throw some ink at it or something! Come on!... accio phone..." She said, and her phone arrived at her hand. "Does anyone want to make a call to the local police... negotiate from here?"

"So they've confirmed Whiskeys are in the station then" Alex muttered, watching the passing aerial view of London. "These negotiations real or are they just buying time until we arrive to help crack the place open?" He asked, turning his attention back to Price.

Warren adjusted his headset as the helicopter whisked hem over the streets of London; people were indistinguishable bobs as the chopper gained altitude. "Price, we waiting for the negotiations to start or are we gonna go ahead and get in position?"

Outside certainly looked like a war zone, Jay had to admit. As she watched with her head sticking out she noticed at least a dozen police cars and three times as many officers. The paramedics were seeing to the injured while firefighter blocked off the area. Worse, God only knew how many random people had become spectators to the final moments of the fight. One thing was certain, there was no way getting out through this dierection. Jay strained her neck out more to get a better look beyond the crowd.

"... I'm confused, I don't know if it's the headache, or the bullet wounds, but I'm confused, if Umbridge... ugh... If she blocked the entrance, why aren't we leaving? It's probably the headache and loss of blood, but I thought the point of this was to protect the kids, any kid here can be aparated in hogsmeade and join with the crowd there. The entrance is blocked, and the military is getting here soon. Why aren't we leaving?" Lita grunted. Then coughed. The potion had a crappy aftertaste too.

"We need to buy time for the Ministry to seal off the entrance to Platform 9 3/4," Jammie reminded her. "And I'm not willing to apparate right now. Can you imagine how the police would react to some of us disappearing from here? Anybody left behind likely wouldn't survive."

It was a moment of tentative peace. The police negotiator had successfully made contact with one of the Aurors, and the dialogue turned a little more amicable when several of the muggle walking wounded, after having treated by Ministry medics, were allowed to exit the perimeter. In fact, both wizards and CO19 teams were beginning to relax (it was now, by general consensus, a political problem) when a new team of wizards Apparated in. Unlike the Aurors, their robes were dark blue and trimmed with pale yellow...

When the Unicorn team landed near Saint Pancras Station, they were quickly met by heavily-armed and armored policemen. Almost immediately, they had large "POLICE" stickers applied to their armor—a convenient disguise that would hopefully fool the newspapermen long enough.

"We're technically under a joint command," Price noted. Like the rest of the Unicorn men, he was fully suited, and he had elected for a M4 carbine as his main weapon. "We go in through the back door, just as you were saying, right onto the platform. Though, it looks like the whiskeys aren't going to fight, but it never hurts in case they go back on their word."

"You've handled it well up to this point, Granger," said Dingus L'Blanc. Unsurprisingly, he was now in full combat uniform. "But I'm in command now. The Ministry of War will handle this."

"L'Blanc, while your presence is appreciated—" (Granger's tone definitely suggested otherwise) "—tell your superiors there's no need for this. The command post is all but packed up and the Hogwarts Express has just pulled out of the station. If we stay here any longer than we have to-"

"I think you have it the wrong way round, Mrs. Weasley," L'Blanc interrupted. If it were supposed to be an insult it didn't register as such. He produced a warrant, freshly signed, that authorized one Dingus Smith L'Blanc, Ministry of Magic, to take command of all Auror and War Ministry assets in and around London. "As the overall theatre commander, I hereby task the Aurors here to evacuate the wounded and the students—wizards and witches only; the muggles can take care of their own, if they want. The Ministry of War will take over security detail." As he spoke pairs of war wizards strode out to reinforce the perimeter, taking cover in the just-deployed swamps. There were close to two dozen of them, although the yellow of their robes contrasted horribly against the station. The eight or nine uninjured Aurors clustered at the centre of the perimeter, most of them giving their counterparts dirty looks. L'Blanc spared the irregular wizarding militia and students a look. "Although you lot seem to have acquitted yourselves quite well, go with the Aurors. That's a command. They will Apparate to the Ministry, and from there can provide transportation to Hogwarts in lieu of the Express."

"Just tell me when everyone's ready," said Hermione. The pile of luggage sat next to the wounded. "As soon as we can, we're getting out of here. You, miss, are going to St. Mungo's—last I checked the Hogwarts staff didn't do gunshot wounds. I suppose it makes sense to leave a security perimeter, though all that would do is to jeopardize our good faith with the Muggles."

Jamie groaned.

"Dammit," she complained. "Can everyone make up their minds? First there's peace, then everyone's fighting, then it's calm again, and now there's going to be more fighting?"

Taking a moment to screw on a suppressor and double check his mag pouches Warren turned to the rest of the team with a grin on his face "Who's got point?"

"You should've been here for the Second Dark War. Nobody knew who was on anybody's side..." With a series of pops the Auror group Apparated out, taking with them the wounded, six dazed students, and the impromptu paramilitaries. The only wizards and witches left in King's Cross belonged to the Ministry of War.

L'Blanc grinned. "Start setting alarm hexes around the perimeter. The Ministry will not surrender a single square foot of land that rightfully belongs to wizarding Britain. I fully intend that the Defense of Platform Nine and Three-Quarters will live on as a legend, to strike fear into the hearts of these degenerate muggles."

So speaking, L'Blanc himself began preparing a few spells. First up, an anti-apparition hex, with exceptions for the men and women under his command. Then, roving patrols. The injured muggles were quickly restrained with body-bind curses: no point in unnecessary roughness...

"This is funny, sir," noted the police surveillance officer. "They were disabling our cameras before, but now they seem to have stopped. Look, here's two of them on the screen. Surely they can see the camera? And these people—I'm sure they weren't the same ones we were negotiating with."

"No more civilians are coming out, sir," reported another officer. "We had a pretty steady flow earlier, but there's not a one now—are all of the missing accounted for?"

The CO19 officer was deep in consultation with Price. "We could always use the extra hands, although I'm trusting you not to interfere with our own ops. If they're as good as the boys down in Hereford..."

"I'd hope so," answered Price. He looked increasingly uneasy. "Something's not right here..."

The "conscripted" wizards, with the exception of Lita, were waiting in the lobby of the Ministry of Magic; almost immediately, they were swept off for debriefing.

Lita was in Saint Mungo's, undergoing emergency healing for gunshot injuries. Though wizarding remedies could act very fast indeed, a gunshot was still a gunshot. She would be in hospital for a while.

No longer confused, Lita returned to her cranky self, the headache was killing her.

"You're friggin' witches! You can apear out of nowhere, you can fly, you can turn into animals, how is this wound not easy to heal?" Sure, she meant to be yelling that, but she was too tired, so it came out as an angry whisper. She felt as strong sting in her thigh and shoulder. "The friggin' crap! Aren't there painkillers in this place." Now she wasn't just tired, the pain was huge. She didn't say anything else, just took deep breaths while the doctors did their job. Where the hell were those painkillers? Not even some sort of sedative?

Then she remembered something that made the pain more worth it. It was only her. There didn't seem to be any other wizards with bullet wounds, or serious wounds for that matter. Her plan had worked. Being a distraction was a good idea, because that meant less people got hurt. Sure, she hurt like hell, but other people didn't.

She smiled as she felt another crappy sting on her shoulder. And took a deep breath. That HURT.

"Perhaps you would've felt better if you were stabbed?" The Healer was one of the matronly types who in full white apron resembled nothing as much as an iceberg. "Ah, good, you're smart enough not to curse at us any more. That automatically makes you one of our favorites. Now hold still and drink this, I don't think you want to be conscious when we dig the bullet out of your shoulder..."

"...well, I don't think any of the blame's going to land on you," noted Granger sourly. The paramilitaries were in one of the many offices that comprised Auror headquarters. "But shepherding the kids to King's Cross was a stroke of good luck. We were really afraid that a Hogwarts student would be killed. I'm afraid you can't go to Hogwarts just yet. We need to retain your services as deputy paramilitary wizards or whatever it is that the War-boys call you. I'm sure that Headmaster McGonagall would understand. God knows I've caused her enough trouble."
