-sigh- Visceral Games. Oh, how I wish you'd just stay out of the spotlight. How I wish EA never listened to any of your ideas for advertising and how you could have at least be somewhat more subtle or tame with what you do.

It's sad that Dead Space 2 got horrible ads when the game is pretty damn good.

He's right. EA needs to respect gaming more, and that Dead Space 2 ad only insults and belittls the people your trying to sell your product to.

Oh so that was what the infamous Dante's Inferno ad campaign was about...ugh...that's....ew.

Good vid this week, I think I like the vids where they attack/disect gaming culture more than when they disect actual gaming mechanics. Probably cause they have much better examples.

They sound like they're onto something there. Although imo, game journalism also needs to be improved dramatically (like more or less thrown out and starting from scratch) to really improve the medium as whole.

Why? TV and Movie journalism is as bad, and always has been (I direct you now to the gossip pages that predate sound in cinema that were as stupid, pandering and pointless as any E-Entertainment expose). Just none of us care about movie journalism.

I'm of two minds on the whole "graphics are at their peak" thing. On the one hand, that phrase has been around since 1991, and yet here we are. On the other hand, we're now 5 years into this generation and we still can't find something more powerful than a Ps3, something that hasn't happened before. Plus, just looking at the graphics of upcoming stuff it is truly hard to imagine something looking better.

Metroid Other M, why is it that whenever I try to forget you ever existed, gamers keep bringing you up?

On the other hand, we're now 5 years into this generation and we still can't find something more powerful than a Ps3, something that hasn't happened before.

Well duh, it's only been a bit more than four years since the PS3 came out.

Why does no-one ever mention Sylvannas Windrunner whenever they talk about good female characters?

Because no one knows who that is.

I'm presuming that, since Sylvanas mainly functions as a questgiver NPC whose mostly known to typical WOW players through occasional quest exposition, the better parts of her character  *

All I remember is that her Charm ability allows you to basically build everything, because you can charm a single builder from the enemy faction... then have a Mirror Match, basically.

Metrics, or how developers use data on which features are popular to decide what's good and what needs to be improved. The video argues that clinging to this excessively will lead to Follow the Leader.

they talking about how console gaming will become niche just like arcade. and portable console will taking over.

my personal opinion that i agree with them HOWEVER i am not saying every game in future will be flash copycat. i think it portable gaming console like NGP that will replace it than typical random smarhphone

Isn't the NDS incorporating a browser and iTunes service as well? Add a phone and the 3DS will be a gaming device with just as many uses as most handhelds

In the "Strong Female Characters" video, they said they could spend the entire video bashing Other M if they so chose. This time around, they've decided to do exactly that. I loved the bit where they argued that giving a character a personality can be worse than leaving them a blank slate, and provided an example.

I disagree with the idea that using comm chatter instead of monologues would have helped significantly. Part of the point from what I could tell is that Samus was the kind of person who thinks a lot but doesn't feel any need to share her thoughts with others. What she was thinking about could certainly have been improved, as could the voice actor's performance, but defining her personality in terms of her reactions to others would simply have made her a different person.

Or, even better, she could have kept her thoughts secret and just showed us her emotions through gestures and expressions. I mean, they added the see-through visor for this game, and yet we barely got any storytelling mileage out of it!

in the indie game R Complex, the whole narrative is done through the protagonist just mumbling to himself. Somehow, the voice acting is even worse than Other M.
