Anyone else play this humorous MMO? I just started playing, and it's a riot.

Crimbo 2010 also happens to contain a monster called...

Well, just look at it.

Yeah, I play it every once in a while.

It's pretty awesome.

I've stopped playing, but it was fun while I was still into it.

That trope monster is hilarious.

Used to play it a long time ago (before NS13). The game itself got stale for me sometime after NS13 and I stopped playing, though for a while I still logged in for the express purpose of hosting a game show to give away my crap in the /games channel, and I still usually log in once every month or two and return every December for the Crimbo event. I used to plan some kind of big giveaway for Crimbo each year well in advance, but I haven't bothered as much with that lately. Last year I just slapped something together on Crimbo Day, and this year I have just over a week left and barely anything prepared (I have a trivia game idea, but still haven't gotten around to writing the questions).

it is kind of neat to see what has changed since I left, though.

I just ascended for the first time.
The Naughty Sorceress was surprisingly easy to defeat. Her first form only took 2 hits...

I played for about half a year straight during early 2009, I believe. I know I started playing shortly after Christmas one year, just in time to grab all of the Crimbo stuff. I got bored around April or May of the following year.

The last things I remember after logging in a few months later was that:

  • Pastamancer and Sauceror spells were allowed to inflict critical hits
  • My character was in a Hardcore Oxygenarian run up the Naughty Sorceress' tower (that I never finished for some reason)
  • A Golden Egg that I had recieved during Easter somehow sold for 8 million meat (I priced it that high purely for storage of some sort. I never expected anyone to actually buy it, to the point where I actually thought that I might have accidentally run into a glitch when I noticed that 8 million meat somehow showed up in my storage, so I submitted a bug report. A developer came back and told me that it didn't look like there was anything strange, in which I finally remembered that I even had a golden egg in my shop in the first place.)

I really should log back in and see what's going on now.

Riff finally finished the Nemesis Quest about a year ago, the underwater content is still incomplete, and some of the main progression quests have been updated, with updates of the rest still to come. That about sums it up.

Bumping for great justice, and also for the second seasonal challenge run that was released today. The prior challenge run was Bees Hate You and the current one is Way of the Surprising Fist.

Suddenly I feel less enthused about starting a Surprising Fist run.

I was under the impression that this challenge run was going to be totally meat-free. That would have been interesting.

Thread Necro!

Anyway, I started playing this game a couple years ago, and it's pretty damned funny.

I'm necro-ing this thread because, wouldn't you know it, the Powers that Might be Giants have given players a special gift for 11/11/2011!

It's ridiculous, it's not even funny.

EDIT: And wouldn't you know it, this post is the 11th in the thread!

Too bad I'm playing an oxygenarian run right now.

Appropriately enough the Ridiculous Sandwiches (or Ridiculous Cocktails, it seems to be random which you get) give you 11 adventures and eleven of each substat.

I'm not sure whether I'm relieved or disappointed that the equips they gave out aren't pieces of an outfit.

Possibly both.

Doing a Way of the Surprising Fist run right now.

It's tons of fun, though I think it might even be a bit too easy. Doing 1000+ damage to bosses with Fire Fist is a bit...broken.

And I have enough meat to cover all the "essential" stuff, so, that's fine.

You can skip a tower boss with that thing. Usually one you don't have a combat item for.

Drunken Baby Style is usually the skill you want to use to get through combat, though.

By the way, are you using a moxie class? Fist is way easy for moxie classes, since the fist skills are autohit anyway.

Disco Bandit.

I've been using Stinkpalm most of the time. Takes care of monsters in the cyrpt quite handily.

*licks thread with Tongue of the Walrus*

The current challenge path is Avatar of Boris. It puts you into the shoes of the legendary hero Boris, and there's some big changes to go with it. Instead of familiars, you have a minstrel who does different things depending on the instrument he's using, and levels at certain points instead of just through fighting. Getting skills works way differently- instead of buying them with meat, you use skill points, gained at one per level, to learn new skills. Sure, it puts it in line with other RPGs, but it feels nice to get a little more powerful per level and not have to worry about floundering around to get meat to buy necessary skills. The Boris skills are separated into three trees as well. Once again, like other games, but it adds a bit of customization and experimentation. In all, it mixes up the game enough that is feels quite fresh. Got me back into it.

Recently started another hardcore ascension myself. 5 done so far, 1 to go before I have the full set of plexiglass equipment.

Oh man, that's awesome and accurate. Reminds me of the time when they had that contest to raid a laboratory to win one of his CDs. Unfortunately, I couldn't make heads or tails of it, but the in-game reward and other stuff I picked up was pretty sweet anyway.

I haven't played the game in years, but the other day Mr. Skullhead did an AMA on reddit and I remembered this thing existed. First I felt old because I got an eight year anniversary present, but then I clicked around and was totally lost. Last time I played, I did the Avatar of Borris path a few times, but now there's all this crazy stuff. But the craziest thing was that there's now a bunch of new skills - two per level.

It already took some getting used to for NS 13, now with all these changes I suppose it's going to take some doing to figure things out again. Guess I better appreciate the challenge. (And also appreciate the inflation on old items making me a tidy profit)

Wait, what? When did that happen?

So now I've just taken a peek at the Pastamancer and Sauceror skill list on the wiki, and now I'm getting excited for the game again.
