So I haven't had much interest in buying a Playstation 3. I've thought about it but never really cared enough to do it.

However I've finally decided to go ahead and buy it. Only...it's giving me a headache. There are so many versions of this crap. Coupled with my caveman-like understanding of technology, I don't want to fuck up and buy the wrong thing.

Now I have read a few reviews and stuff comparing the models. A lot of people say that the extra G Bs really isn't that important and you can get a bigger hard drive later on or something.

All I know is I want it to play games...that's it. So i was looking at a chart and decided I'd get one of the newer 80GB models that comes with a Dual Shock 3 controller and consumes less electricity. (I'm going ot be using the thing a lot so that's important) Only Now I've been researching all this, it seems some of the older models have had trouble with the updates Sony periodically gives to the machine. I dunno about the details but it made me reluctant to buy any of the older ones.

So right now, I'm just thinking I'll buy the 160 GB which is newer and cheaper than all the other newer versions on Amazon. But I really just don't know and I don't want to waste 200, possibly 300, dollars on this.

So, just hoping someone here could advise me on what to buy.

In my opinion, as long as you get one of the Slim models, it doesn't matter much how big it is. If you're planning on using the online store, a 160 gig might be good for you.

Get a slim model, and just pick whichever Storage size you feel like paying for. Other then the hard drive, they are identical. So if you're only going to play a reasonable amount of games, go for the cheaper. And use the cash you save for some games.

The slim ones are better then the old in every way, save how many USB ports it has. So don't bother with the old ones.

Do you have a PS 2? If you do then just get the slim. If you do not and you do not care about PS 2 games, still get the Slim. If you have no PS 2 and you do want to play PS 2 games, then you might want to consider getting the old 60GB model. They stopped manufacturing that one a while ago, however, so it will most likely be more expensive than it is worth. So yeah, Slim sounds like the one for you.

[up] Agreed.

I got the Slim earlier this year. I really wish it were backwards-compatible, since my PS 2 has since died, but that's not the Slim's fault.

SO glad I have a 60GB model with PS 2 compatibility.

A brighter future for a darker age.
