[up] Pretty neat. Reminds me of this little lacewing nymph I found once that was carrying it's victim's dessicated corpses on it's back as part of it's camouflage.

Noticing now a lot of the seasonal insects coming out. Caddis Flies are gathering on the riverbanks, and some of the ground-dwelling bees are now out and about. Might start hearing crickets if the cool weather subsides.

Okay, who though this was a sythemantis thread when they saw the title? Anyone?

Also on the subject of bugs which are cool, the Jack Jumper Ant is so badass it makes the poisonus snakes and spiders of the seething hellhole I live in it's bitch.

I allowed some mozzies to bite me the other day. Only so I could catch one and preserve it in alcohol for an assignment, though.

Also spent quite a few hours over the last few weeks peering at dead bugs under the microscope. Fly larvae are pretty damn gross.

The problem with giving mosquitoes blood is that they carry all sorts of nasty diseases. I'm more than happy to support single mothers but it's them or me. They have a short lifespan anyway.

But I like bugs. My brother had a mantis who would perch itself atop his head. It was pretty social, it would look at you when you're talking.

I don't care if it would compromise the ecosystem, I want a cataclysm to befall every insect and any other related species.

Arthropods are fascinating creatures, with such diversity of interesting characteristics. So long as they stay away from me.

Compromise the ecosystem? Try bringing it down in a spectacular crumbling pile of rubble. Small rubble.

What strikes me about insects is how alien they are. The vast majority of 'aliens' in science fiction have far more in common with us than arthropods do. They have no real capillaries, all their 'blood' is just bathing their organs directly. They breathe through holes in their sides.
