The New Touhou Character Alternate Interpretation Compendium!

Actually, my personal headcanon is that Reimu never finds who actually wrecked her shrine and just rampaged against the two major "youkai zones" figuring she was bound to yinyang whoever did it eventually.

This is mainly the fact...well, we have two different routes in different places with different final bosses, and they both can't have done it.

I like the idea that Konngara (attempted to) burn Reimu's desire with her sword as she was trying to beat her up.

She might be a kishin on top of being a yaksha. Can that work? Who knows. Not me.

Tenshi: Reimu's lifelong archenemey unbeknowst to everyone. Including her.

I've seen some interpretations of Konngara where the horn is actually a spike driven through her head. I kind of wonder where that came from.

I think there is a small bit of red pixel next to the horn which folks have interpreted as blood.

Maybe she's a Hemalurgist.

Ow, that Konngara comic hit me right in the productivity.

On that note, what's with the ghostly nature? I like the kishin explanation, but does working for Hell mean you have to be dead? Also, what kind of oni uses a weapon when they have perfectly functional fists?

Certainly possible, Reimu is obviously still learning her powers in the game.

Maybe... she started as an oni, got promoted to a kishin, got her horn sawed off by some foe, jabbed a spike into her head to replace it, died and came back as a yaksha. With so many potential titles to choose from, she ended up with "astral knight" as a vague compromise.

Okay, now that we seem to have returned to normal in the main thread, do we want to give Kongara another shot or move on?

I'm down for more Konngara talk.

...But I am not good at coming up with new talking points.

I don't think she is a oni. The fourth of the big four will be revealed as a non-Konngara person eventually.

Perhaps as an Astral Knight Kongara is only the projection of a being, they could only correctly project her top half because the distance was so great, therefore she looks like a ghost. The real Kongara could be some powerful magician projecting their soul as a swordswoman from another world.

"Guys, where are my legs?"
"It, uh, appears there's some leg lag... going on. Just start without them."
"No, I look ridiculous, nobody is going to take me - Oh shit, she's here!"

The legs are just cosmetic anyway!

Got my thoughts together.

Here's my usual overview.

Hmmm... Maybe it's not smoke, but the silver cord that's supposed to be present when someone astrally projects. That'd open up a lot of possibilities.

Konngara was being from some other world or place, and projected into Hell (Probably to beat up some evil nasty badguys.) Perhaps an Oni who didn't wish to be physically present for whatever reason (Say, because the oni had all retreated underground/otherwise left).

Perhaps she went there because she knew Reimu was there and wanted to face her, but with plausible deniablility ("I swear I have been here in the underground for the past 300 years.")

If Konngara were the 4th Deva, perhaps she, too, doesn't wish to have fingers pointed at her. Again explaining the remote battle option.

Maybe she's the one who left before they became famous?

First time I've heard something like this. Intriguing, and would certainly fit the "Astral Knight" title better than some advanced oni or yaksha. Though this makes her motives more murky...

...and this might explain it. Some jerk gets a new spell and decides to test out her new power by attacking random targets - a shrine here, damned souls there. And since Reimu only beat up the projection, said jerk is still out there somewhere.

It's mostly interesting as a way to group her with the existing oni characters, I believe.

So is she more interesting as a mysterious character with an undecided background? Would more details about her make Konngara more or less interesting?

As far as I can tell looking at Danbooru, there was a page or so of fanart (mostly group shots), then one pic of the so-called "Four Devas" after Kasen debuted between two and three years ago, and blammo, narcolepsy's comic interspaced with some high-quality art.

I imagine the jerk you mention being very upset. Konngara is still out there, and still plotting to deal with that Shrine maiden. Soon, the years of research will be complete, and Konngara will be completely immune to the Hakurei Shrine maiden's treasured yin-yang orb! It was the only weapon she could use to harm Konngara, so now their next battle will have a different outcome!

What do you mean Reimu hardly uses the orb anymore?

More details on Konngara would make her more interesting, but she's more interesting that the rest of TH 1's cast because she has more mysterious details.

I'm pretty sure we've done Kosuzu already, before we started on the PC 98 characters.

Did we? I wouldn't know.

Oh right, I speculated that she was stupid. As in, not that I didn't like her character, but that she was dumb. Not smart. Needs to use that meaty thing in her head more.
