Why should an abusive trainer go through the trouble training a lion or bear if he can remove its teeth and claws so it won't attack back, or why shouldn't a master not abuse his slave if they considered property and not true persons anyway? Because people pay to see the lion and bear dance, which always needs training, and abusing your slaves would likely shorten their lifespan and make them resentful towards you, which results in shitty service and you don't get your money's worth.
Damn, I thought this was going to be about lambs and eagles. I am disappoint.

I'm all for defending the weak, when they aren't bringing it on themselves through their own actions. I guess I don't think of it so much as the physically strong who should rule, but the confident and assertive, so long as they can also be responsible. I can't stand meek individuals.

What this troper is very discouraged to learn from outside experience is that whenever it seems an individual or group will not fight back, it is apparently okay for others to pick or abuse them in any way. Even around our own pets were more cautious around those that might bite us back (like large dogs) but smaller animals are fair game for humiliating play. As I can attest, it's easier to laugh in the face of a hissing cat than a snarling dog.
