@Mad (I'm late to the party) about how Dany's arc was "well-done".

That's like having Scorcese to adapt the Twilight books as movies. Yeah, it will probably be "well-done". But in that situation the problem comes from the source material, which is just bad.

I'm five books in, and aside from the dothraki part (who ended uickly because all morally positive characters have to suffer as a rule) and a couple of interesting parts here and there (hatching dragons, getting the Unsullied army, Fat Belwas & Arstan), I never got Dany's army.

All these books are about is storylines that cross and what happens when interesting people meet, and Dany is just elsewhere. I mean, that's like playing a Civ game on a map of Europe and starting in Iceland. Yeah, sure, you are pretty free to build whatever you want, but you are thousand of kilometers away from real, interesting action.

I really don't get why some people see A So Ia F as the third testament. GRRM pretty much admitted at some point that he made mistakes - Darkstar & the Myrcella plot, for a start - so when God tells you His writings are flawed, I think you are allowed some criticism.

Complaining about having more Natalie Emmanuel on screen. I can't even...

I don't think Dany's story is bad by any means.

It's just a consequence of GRRM not doing the time skip. She wasn't where she was supposed to be at following at the beginning of ADWD so it's become very character development heavy stuff for Daenerys.

It's got plenty of great material.

@Hodor Do you mean this quote?

"The Lord of Light would hold our city against a million Dothraki, or so the red priests promise ... yet why take chances, when their friendship comes so cheap?"

It seems more like a significant chunk of Pentos worships R'hllor.

[up] Did he ever own up to A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons yet? Never read them but from what I heard plenty enough people are not happy.

@Julep Because I don't value fanservice all that much.tongue

[up] ADWD is along with ASOS my favorite books in the series.

I think people have just become really impatient because GRRM's taking his sweet time and they want ASOS: Part 2.

But like I said without the time skip he planned for he realized his characters aren't ready for the next phase. Now he's gotta show everything he planned to either flashback to or just skip.

I believe that the Mercy chapter in TWOW was supposed to be Arya's first chapter after ASOS and that Daznak's Pit was going to happen very early in Dany's story post-ASOS.

@Mad : You noticed that Missing Worm also brought more of fully clothed Missandei on screen ?

'cause I did.

Also, like all Game Of Thrones viewers, I am now gay for Oberyn, so why would the bath scene impress me exactly ?

I don't see the problem with Missandei and Grey Worm getting some Character Development.

I like it for their scenes being literally the only scenes in the entire show being poc only and we could get a good dialog about how a relationship/friendship/romance doesn't need to be sexual

it has all the grounds for a nice subtle nuanced commentary and I know the show isn't going to do that at all

and it was book canon that the unsullied would pay for Meereenese sex workers to hold them during the night, which I thought was a touching addition

Daenerys' ADWD plot is actually one of my favourites. You have Daenerys, who previously pretty much had everything handed to her on a silver platter since she got her dragons, struggling to keep peace between the freed slaves and their former masters. It shows how even moral and well intentioned actions, like freeing the slaves, can have bad consequences as everyone between Qarth and Volantis joins in war against Meereen and Astapor and thousands of Astaporian refugees starve outside Meereen's gates. The battle for Meereen is the first time I've actually worried about Dany's chances and Meereen falling would probably make me sadder than anything else Martin could do at this point. To me, Meereen is where Daenerys belongs, unlike Westeros which she's never been to and where she's barely even relevant. I know she has to get there eventually in order to tie her into the main plot, but I kinda hope she'll just show up with her dragons, burn the Others and then return to Meereen.

That Meereenese Blot essay really made me see Dany's story in a different light. I like it now, but that doesn't mean it wasn't kind of a drag to read.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

Dany's story is more entertaining on a re-read and yeah, the Meereenese Blot made it so much better.

@Julep Eh, it's just that Missandei and Greyworm are extremely minor characters. I care more about Locke than I ever cared about Greyworm. He's just so bland.

Missandei is alright but I would've like it if they had made her wise rather than lovestruck.

@Byaku I wish they had brought in Brown Ben Plumm and Strong Belwas. In fact, I wish they had replaced Daario with a younger Brown Ben Plumm.

Someone wanted to know where they had seen the portrayal of Qyburn before in another movie: Qyburn is pretty much a Nazi doctor in a concentration camp.

[up][up] A crippled Warg and a possesed strongman with strength possibly close to the Mountain's? Yeah seems a little contrived. Maybe he could have lasted longer as Roose's Dragon or even as a personal Big Bad hunting someone and they don't know their being hunted. Tyrion? Arya?

I wonder how The Mountain would have fared against a run of the mill white walker.

Unless he had dragon glass or, presumably, a Valyrian sword (or a dragon), he'd be dead, then a white. Now I'm shuddering at the thought of white Gregor.

I'm talking in a fist fight. We know WW's have at least some superhuman strength.

I agree with Randoma. The white walker has only one weakness that we know of but humans (even strong ones) have a multitude of weaknesses. Also, we don't know if white walkers fatigue or if they are "breakable." We know of one win condition against them and there are many more against humans.

To be fair, I think it's entirely possible that Ser Gregor could take a WW in hand to hand combat. White Walkers still kill you with blades or their bare hands, I think Gregor could probably just rip all of their limbs off and leave the WW incapable of doing anything other than wiggling around on the floor.

This is The Mountain That Rides we're talking about here, I think he's willing to try anything out of blind rage instead of thinking it through. I highly doubt a WW would scare him in a 1 on 1.

How badass would that be? I want to see resurrected Ser Gregor bisect a white walker with his bare hands.

I always wonder how some of the more, mm, mundane? characters would react to the more fantastic occurrences and characters. Like, how would Tywin react to a White Walker invasion?

As a side, I'm wondering how a Long Night would affect the rest of the world. It seems as if the magical seasons work around the world similarly to how they work in Westeros, so is the entirety of humanity at stake when the White Walkers invade?

Related, I'm wondering how the previous Long Night and White Walker invasion affected Essos and elsewhere, if there are any stories and legends about it somewhere. Although, considering the amount of time since then, I'd imagine the existence of such an ancient order as the Night's Watch created in response would help make it more of a prominent memory in its associated lands.

Something I just noticed: did they cut Mance's wife and kid? What will the reason for Gilly and her kid to follow Sam and Aemon be in the show?

[up]My guess (or hope) is that they'll be introduced next season along with Val, while the Lord Commander election is going on. Alternatively we'll just be introduced to Val with Dalla's baby, who will mention some backstory stuff about her dead sister being Mance's wife.
