What do ya mean I ain't kind? Just not your kind...What's not innovative about the Hydra? Unlike the Wii remote, it knows absolute position, and with much better resolution than the Move or Kinect. And the reason it's so versatile is because it can be used like six Theremins at once on DA Ws, many of which are programmable. Again, check out this thread:

I'm still learning Csound, so I haven't got it to control sound well yet, but position and other variables are easy to get with OSC.

I'd say guitar, mostly because I'm biased.
"What do you mean I'm not kind? Just not your kind."I'm gonna go and say (and surely I'll be ridiculed for this)...
RECORDER. In the right hands, it sounds marvelous as a solo instrument... and even better when played as a member of a consort. It can also be used (unlike most instruments) as a horrific torture device, via the nasty screeches, squawks and squeaks from new students. And then there's the innocuous fact that the principle behind the recorder also holds true for the pipe organ.
It can be used to play music of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical eras, as well as songs from modern times. Traditional/folk songs are its forte, most especially jigs (though they do sound better on the tin whistle).
Voice.

It was a difficult delivery, now it's growing up mean and strong. If you don't count the voice, the electric guitar can create a diverse amount of sounds. Compare post-rock, black metal, garage rock, the guitar sound D. Boon of the Minutemen played, and your standard hard rock band.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.Samplers.
With them you can sample any sound in any genre making it more versatile than any other instrument.
The smartest idiot you will ever meet.People saying voice make me laugh. You can't even make a chord with your voice. Now if you're talking about a full choir or a cappella group, sure. Then it wins. But otherwise it's silly to pick an instrument that can't even make a chord.
I'd have to go with drums, but I'm biased.
https://soundcloud.com/rich-justice-hinmen Too white for the black kids, too white for the white kids. You could say the same of every woodwind and brass in an orchestra. Alone, they cannot produce chords as well.
You do understand that the only things that can make chords are strings and some percussion, right?
If chords are required, then the obvious answer is an electric guitar.

You don't get more versatile than a polyphonic synthesizer or sampler in my opinion, since those have all the range and musical application of a keyboard instrument while having a far wider timbral range than any other instrument to the point of being able to replicate any other sound. Their only disadvantage is dynamics, and even that can be fixed with the right technology.
Because I choose to.
