[up] I'm still fine with the original Half-Life's graphics, but you really shouldn't expect something like that from a major company in 2014. You can't review a game and not talk about the graphics, especially when it's so noticeable. It's not like it's a huge open world RPG with lots of dialogue options, character customization, and large monster, weapon and armor variety that would excuse it either. He's not saying the game is bad just because of the graphics, only that it's one of the bad things about the game.

Just coming around to remind everybody that the Deus Ex: Revision final release is about a month from now! New level design, new textures courtesy of New Vision, better looking weapons thanks to HDTP, and an (optional) new soundtrack!

Teh exciteness.

Looks nice but I am waiting for the release and user reports to decide whether or not to install it. My system can be temperamental with game mods , almost despite whatever the game is being modded.

The Fall sounds like it turned how the pessimists thought Human Revolution would.

Not sure which thread to post this in but this seems as good as any.

So a friend of mine got me Human Revolution a few days ago and I've been loving it. However, I have one major problem: I'm trying to complete the sidequest "Cloak & Dagger" and the quest guide is directing me to take out the gang members after I took out their leader. That's fine and all (even though I never alerted anyone when I did so) but the game is saying that quest is taking place in areas I cannot gain access to. Like, the only two buildings in the apartment area that you can't enter. And the tracker keeps switching between two buildings depending on where I'm standing. Any help?

The last guy is probably 200 meters above you. Or below you. Or both at once.

Yay glitches!

So if I just kill one of the guys I knocked out, I can turn in the quest? Welp. There goes my Pacifist run. Oh well. This is my first playthrough and I was likely to break it eventually.

Pretty sure that you don't have to kill anybody in that quest and that it's a glitch you've ran into. And as for the no-kill run? Good luck trying to maintain that discipline after Alice Gardens and your return to Hengsha... evil grin

Jonah Falcon found a copy of PC Gamer from July 2002 while cleaning.

Look how fucking HUGE the levels were going to be in Deus Ex Invisible War. (Also, it was called Deus Ex 2: Invisible War, which means it was going to be PC only.)

Just mauled my way through the ambush at Alice Gardens Pods in Hengsha in Human Revolution. As soon as those Belltower guys had used their Icarus Landing System things and stormed into the building, and the cutscene showing their boss murdering some poor sap had finished, I went head hunting. Literally.

Single aimed pistol shots to the head killed absolutely all of them. Gotta love the increased damage, armor piercing and laser sight addons. Bit of a swizz was that since the alarm had sounded right before I got player control, I never got my "never spotted me" type bonus.

I ninja'd my way through that and just knocked out everyone aside from the four of so men in the center.

As soon as Narhari Kahn shot dead that poor hapless civilian right in front of me with me being unable to stop him, my intentions of ever doing a purely pacifist run in Human Revolution ended. Him and all his buddies on site were worm bait walking at that point.

Then the next time you're in Hengsha, the sons of bitches try to kill the Fly Girl. The first time I played the game, well, that happened, they succeeded. I wasn't fast enough or good enough to save her and it was a kick in the guts. Now? Even more corpses on the pile. I've seen videos of folks doing it with takedowns and non-lethal ammunition but those Belltower folks aren't worth the time or effort.

At other points in the game, it's fun to go through a level without painting the walls with arterial spray, if a bit tricky and Tranquilizer Dart/Stun Gun Dart/Takedown dependent, but on those two occasions, well, sometimes ponies need killin'.

Yeah, that was the first time I fully broke my imperfect pacifist run (I still don't know hot to non-lethally take down the bosses). I made sure each and every one of them was dead and used the EMP grenade I was saving for a rainy day on the mech. It was a bit of a shame that I didn't get to use my sniper rifle more but my trusty, fully upgraded pistol was more than enough for me to snipe them.

Yup, that was the mission. No-one messes with the Fly Girl.

FYI, bosses can't be taken down non lethally (usually) - you still get the pacifist bonuses if they're the only cockwombles you kill.

My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.

My commitment to pacifist runs ends when I get fed up with folks I'm trying to spare killing me. After that, they're grass and I'm the scythe.

Well, that's what I like to think anyway. tongue I get killed as often doing lethal runs in Human Revolution and Deus Ex as I do during pacifist plays. Though I have managed to get through Alice Garden Pods once without getting killed at all, or leaving any of the mobs alive. The Zenith pistol in Human Revolution is scarily good when you mod the heck out of it.

p.s Addy, love the cockwomble bit. I'mma steal that if that's okay?

I always preferred the SMG for it's silenced tracker bullets and the revolver for the explosive rounds, those two could handle almost any situation (except long-range gunfights and the bosses).

I thought the Director's Cut changed it to where you actually didn't have to kill anyone.

It's much more fun to keep playing pacifist after that, you'll be able to beat the crap out of Kahn three times. :)

Edit: That bit with the belltower goons and the bot later on is pretty easy to do pacifist, you just gotta use the cloak, double takedown, some non lethal guns and spam lots of energy bars. You can find dozens of them up to that point so keep a few inventory slots available. Having extra energy storage doesn't hurt either.

Oh, I've done a pacifist run in Deus Ex 1 on Realistic hardness. It involves a LOT of tranqs, energy prods, gas grenards, as well as my EMP drone maxxed out for the bots.

Oh, and changing bot AI. I may not kill, but hey, if a security bot is doing the killing, MY hands are clean. ;)

If I had a pistol in real life that was as good as the Zenith is in Human Revolution when it's fully-modded, I wouldn't use any other weapon ever. Oh, you have a Level IV CRISAT armor set on? How cute. Silent bang. Thump on impact as the bullet rips through the armor and the guy inside it. Thud. Oh you have a Big Dog combat robot? How cute. Silent bang. Loud series of skritching noises and a big thud as the robot dies and falls to the floor.

[up] It's tradition for a Deus Ex game to have an overpowered pistol. The pistol in the original is a ridiculous headshot machine especially with the laser attachment added to it and Invisible War could be played more or less start to finish with just a pistol. Hell the way I usually played it I'd swap my first pistol for the first unique pistol ASAP which I'd use until I could get the second unique pistol, I'd use that one for pretty much the entire rest of the game.

Yeah. I don't use the standard pistol much in the first Deus Ex game - the Stealth one fills my needs, which is usually when my Riot Prod or Mini-Crossbow has run out of less-than-lethal ammunition, I've no Gas Grenades left and I just can't be bothered whacking folks on the head with my Baton.
