There is no line between art and porn. Tentacle porn was invented to fall on the art side of this imaginary divide by avoiding the need to show a penis, since penises are sick and wrong and seeing one will turn you into a serial killer.

Yes, the desire to avoid porn gave us tentacle porn. Now please stop trying to avoid porn before you cause more things like tentacle porn to exist. Do Not Want.

Tentacle porn is, in a strange ironic sense, still more "acceptable" (if that makes any sense) than bestiality hentai...

Tentacle porn should not exist, and would not exist if people didn't keep trying to get rid of porn in general.

People who try to get rid of porn are creating things like tentacle porn and whatever its successor shall be. Thus I hate them and wish they had never existed.

Well, obviously, I disagree with you on the "tentacle porn should not exist" part, so expect a rebuke from my lawyer.

Tentacle porn is awesome and one of my most beloved childhood memories, though I have moved on since then.

And the fact that it aims at being a masturbation tool doesn't make it not art. There is an art to it, just the same way there is art to a Michael Bay movie, or to a Perfect Crime. It being socially looked-down-upon does not make it any less of a technical accomplishment. I'll say it and I'll repeat it. Bad porn is fucking easy to make. Good porn is freaking hard.

I have a general rule for separating porn from art, but unfortunately it only works for men.

If the work is still of interest to members of the target audience during their refractory periods, it's not porn.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

You mean it's not just porn.

But eyah, that's a definitely good definition of "porn": something you really don't care about anymore once you'e gone refractory.

...

I remember reading porn that was so awesome it completely overrode the refractory period. Maybe that is the criterion for "porn that is also art"?

I think Ooze had the "right" answer, to the extent that this question has an answer.
