Great! It seems like the fifth season will be about the Observers and the future situation we saw in last week's episode, which should be interesting.

OK, now I'm really confused. Last weeks episode must have been some kind of alternate history future or something?

I don't know about alternate history, but it was a possible future. It doesn't relate to anything that's happened this season, so I think it's foreshadowing what next season might be about. Given the events of today's episode (the destruction of the bridge between universes), the core plotline of seasons 2 through 4 seems to be being resolved, so establishing a new one makes sense.

Anyone notice that the Massive Dynamic logo looks a bit like the Nintendo64 logo?

That was a surprisingly weak episode. Thank goodness there's another season. The second half should be good though.

Okay, anyone else think that whoever wrote the last two episodes is a fan of the Dark Phoenix Saga? Activating Olivia's powers in a way that could destroy the world, followed by killing her, followed by her coming back...

After four seasons of awesome disgusting weirdness, I think the "dead" Jessica interrogation is probably the single creepiest thing I have ever seen ever.

Last season starts this evening, if I read the schedule right.

Previews suggest things are going to be in the vein of "Letters of Transit".

Now that we've heard from Markham, I'm wondering whether we'll see Sam Weiss again. I like to imagine that he's flying under the radar, planning something.

Just started watching yesterday, did not know anything about the pitch prior to seeing the pilot (which I always prefer), apart from the fact that it had FBI agents in it.

Really loved it. You can feel the "J.J. touch" definitely. I also enjoyed how they set up basically everything you need to know in the first episode : it was dense, I liked the writing and the actors were fun to watch and delivered fine performances (especially love Walter). Looking forward to seeing more (bought the first two seasons).

How far are you in? 'cause that touch evaporates like rainwater on hot tin.

Whatever the man's virtues, he's not without his faults. He tends not to stick around too long after conception, and he's not too invested in depth of characterisation.

It's more something I find in the series he created than anything else. I know he isn't the showrunner on many of his shows, in fact all of them I think, but the ones he created all have a certain style to them that makes them stand out. I thought the same about Alcatraz.

Besides, you can often find some of the same shared actors between these series because he often is a producer too.

And I've just watched the pilot so far, that's it. I want to go slow with this one because I remember finishing Lost in just about a month, and I prefer living with a series for a while (like it's originally intended anyway).

Ah. He certainly has a house style, you're right. Slight object fetishism (I mean that in the nicest possible way), interest in machinery, mysticism encoded as technobabble, soft-science fiction ideas and an interest in the iconic (a pretty great talent in a television series).

I quite like the first season. I know a lot of people who are more into it as it got closer to the end (presumably due to their love of serialisation), but I liked it pretty much all the way through. Show changes quite a bit, though.

Also, Anna Torv is a great actress with a huge range. The problem being, Olivia's fairly stoic and American audiences didn't react too well — at first anyway. She's consistent all the way through, though.

Since Alias J.J. has just been a producer on shows, with Lost being the last time he actually wrote for anything (he left when Ethan kidnapped Claire to work on MI 3) and his input has been mostly been limited to pilots.

And yeah, Anna Torv is amazing as it goes on.

And I've always loved strong female protagonists, so yeah Olivia is definitely right up my alley. smile

occono, that's not entirely true. He came back for the first part of Lost's third season, penning the premier. He was also fairly extensively involved with Undercovers before it's failure to find an audience.

My favorite bits are the last half-to-third of the second & fourth seasons, and pretty much all of the third season.

Fifth season is certainly... different, but might be finding a footing now. It's at its best when it shows, not tells, about other universes/time periods.

Also, in the most recent episode, why the big surprise that the future side of the wormhole recovered "so fast"? Time Travel 101, people!
