Said magazine also spelled 'Evangelion' wrong, in Japanese (it is written s the old 'エヴァンゲリオン' instead of the new 'ヱヴァンゲリヲン'). So, yeah, not the best place to get the correct names.

Was the Newtype published before the new spelling was revealed or not?

Also, I'm thinking that the stuff between Shinji and Kaworu will be a lot more one sided this time, with Shinji having little interest in Kaworu's affection.

Well if the TV Tropes page is right, this will be the second time Kowaru meets Shinji, but only Shinji's first time meeting Kowaru.

Well I'm sorta thinking Kaworu will turn into an out and out villain. "If I can't have Shinji, no one can!"

Even worse if he becomes like Akise from Mirai Nikki.

Considering Shinji's only really interested in Rei (the shipper is squeeing inside me right now) I am more eagerly awaiting just what will happen to the two. Please don't break them up Anno.

He can't exactly be interested in someone he hasn't met though. At the very least this means no 'jerkoff' scene.

Oh gosh, him masturbating to Asuka was bad enough. I don't need to see him doing that to another, let alone Kaworu, who is creepyness incarnate so far.

I think I finally realized why I prefer Rebuild over the original. Mind you, it's not by a large margin, but I still enjoy Rebuild more. The reason? The ever-so-complained about cut of material.

Yes, shortening the series into four movies cuts out a fair bit of space for characterization, but you know what it adds? Tension. Each Angel now feels like an actual, credible threat, something that I didn't get in the original series until it was nearing the end. They really seem to come into their own in Rebuild, and each one just makes you start to think, "Oh shit, the planet's boned."

Also, a note about the lack of character focus compared to the original. I really don't have much to complain about. Honestly, I do wish Ritsuko, Kaji, Gendo (not as bad as the others, but that scene in NGE where he helped manually launch an Eva will be sorely missed) and Asuka got just a tad bit more attention than they do most of the time, but honestly? I actually think it helps a bit. Some of the characters get shoved to the fringes of the limelight so the really important ones shine brighter.

Watching NGE, it took a while for me to really get invested in Shinji's struggles, despite having watched Rebuild previously. It didn't have the same impact. It felt like I was constantly being slapped across the face with characterization. There was just too much, not to mention that most of the time, he completely failed to learn anything from his experiences. Yes, I know he's a flawed human being like the rest of us, and that we don't always learn our lessons either, but he flounders about between despair and coming into his own so much that the attenpt to make him feel like a natural human come off as unnatural.

Point being, in Rebuild, I got a feel for the characters quickly, and I got attached to them and sympathized with them much more easily. For something that supposedly waters down characterization, Rebuild's cast felt much more human than the collection of Aesops NGE tried to shove down my throat.

Its been a few months since I've looked for anything RoE related. Any news on the third movie yet?

Nothing new except that the official english title is now "You Can (Not) Redo".

Also the final movie will be out next year, but besides that nothing much.

@KSPAM: I think it's true that the main characters really do feel a lot more like human beings in Rebuild, with the exception of Mari, who is like no human being I've ever known. I think that's because this time they're based more on observations of human nature and less on the DSM IV.

The minor characters, on the other hand, have still lost a lot of good characterization. Gendo, Misato and Kaji still come out pretty good, but Ritsuko has suffered pretty heavily, and although admittedly the bridge bunnies only ever got token characterization in the series, they've been given next to none in Rebuild.

Personally, I hope 3.0 will pull the focus onto some secondary characters for at least some of its runtime, but I'm not so sure that will happen or even if it should.

Yeah, Ritsuko needs more love. Literally and figuratively :P

Meh, I never really cared much for Ritsuko, so I don't really have any problems there. But you're right, the minor characters could use a bit more depth.

The series so far has centered mainly on Shinji and Rei. While I do think this more focused approach, it wouldn't hurt to give the others a bit more personality. With the two basically out for the beginning of 3.0 at least, hopefully we will get more development for the others.

I think Ritsuko is a lot more superfluous to the scheme of things in Rebuild than she was in NGE. Because of how Gendo's characterization has been streamlined into focusing on his relationships with Rei and Shinji, the plot point of having an affair with her and her mother is no longer necessary and to be honest it never really added much to begin with other than tying into the more psychological case study aspects of the show. Because of how close Shinji has gotten to Rei, the reveal of her being a clone will most likely be handled completely differently than it was in the show (given what happened at the end of 2.0 I don't even think this Rei will die). And the other big payoff scene, Akagi facing down Gendo in Eo E, will more likely than not not happen either due to the different way Seele is interfering with NERV in this setting.

I think the only other meaningful thing that could come from the Akagis' is how Rei I was killed, but we don't even know if she was killed in this setting. Since the Magis don't seem to be elaborated on in Ro E, it's doubtful that Ritsuko's mother will be mentioned at all.

I personally think all of this helps streamline and keep Rebuild focused, by the way. The characters I hope get expanded upon in 3.0 are Misato, Kaji, Asuka and Mari. Also Kaworu but that's a given.

And I myself didn't really like Asuka in the original series, sad backstory and all. Still wasn't enough to make me think of her as being anything but a Jerkass with no development until the very end. However the Rebuild series has actually made her more tolerable to me.
