Maybe of we stopped encouraging peopl to spend so much in maintaining their lawns. I never understood why they do that. It's not fiscally frugal I in the short or long term

Got it, we'll boil all the oceans and lakes in the world and have enough fresh water until the end of time!

It's perfect

Oh really when?

There's actually a plan that could help get more fresh water for the middle east, at least.

They say it can be done with nukes, but the Panama Canal is longer, and had to blast through freaking mountains. I think this could be done.

I'm going to link you to this. It's a fictional project I was helping on in which we came up with an idea to secretly irrigate the Sahel using an underground aquifer that linked the Niger River and Lake Chad. Give it a read, I think you'lll find it amusing.

The solution to the water problem is easy: Solve the energy problem, and then build desalinization plants.

tongue

Seriously, that's probably easier than most proposals.

The upside to the depression thing is it makes power and fresh water, as well as making the area cooler. If you wanted you could hook it right up to desalination plants and pipe fresh water around.

How does the Depression create fresh water? It's unfiltered sea water.

Maybe they hang huge tarps over the water to catch the evaporating water and channel it to tanks on the side?

To be fair, you can't not make it apocalyptic, given the premise.

What's a "pund"?

I mentioned yesterday's What If? to my wife this morning and she considered it "silly". Meanwhile, my son didn't understand the terms I was using. When he gets older, I think I'm going to use this series as a way to teach him science.

Apparently, Kerbal Space Program is a cool thing. I may have to check it out.
