Got it, we'll boil all the oceans and lakes in the world and have enough fresh water until the end of time!
It's perfect
Oh really when? There's actually a plan that could help get more fresh water for the middle east, at least.
They say it can be done with nukes, but the Panama Canal is longer, and had to blast through freaking mountains. I think this could be done.

I'm baaaaaaackLawn culture is apparently pretty evil, but that's a different topic.
That Quattara Depression link was fascinating. Thanks.
No problem, it's a favorite of mine. On the list of things to support if I end up filthy rich
I'm baaaaaaackI'm going to link you to this. It's a fictional project I was helping on in which we came up with an idea to secretly irrigate the Sahel using an underground aquifer that linked the Niger River and Lake Chad. Give it a read, I think you'lll find it amusing.
The solution to the water problem is easy: Solve the energy problem, and then build desalinization plants.
Seriously, that's probably easier than most proposals.
Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)The upside to the depression thing is it makes power and fresh water, as well as making the area cooler. If you wanted you could hook it right up to desalination plants and pipe fresh water around.
I'm baaaaaaackHow does the Depression create fresh water? It's unfiltered sea water.
Maybe they hang huge tarps over the water to catch the evaporating water and channel it to tanks on the side?
I went through two different definitions of Depression before I hit the right one.
Evaporation = rain
Desert = a he'll of allot of evaporation

I'm baaaaaaackThat's one hell'a tarp...
I finally understand Heartbleed. Thanks, Randall!
I hadn't bothered looking into it much, but it seems to me that's a rather gaping security hole
I'm baaaaaaack'Tis indeed a massive hole.
I like the search request for "snakes but not too long".
Oh, another doomsday scenario. Involving relativistic speeds, no less.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.To be fair, you can't not make it apocalyptic, given the premise.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...FYI you actually weigh half a pound less at the equator then at the poles

What's a "pund"?
I mentioned yesterday's What If? to my wife this morning and she considered it "silly". Meanwhile, my son didn't understand the terms I was using. When he gets older, I think I'm going to use this series as a way to teach him science.
Apparently, Kerbal Space Program is a cool thing. I may have to check it out.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Maybe of we stopped encouraging peopl to spend so much in maintaining their lawns. I never understood why they do that. It's not fiscally frugal I in the short or long term
