Yea, the level of automation in the setting simply doesn't work that way - it can't be just a random "glitch". Only a full Skynet situation - like we have Chinook going.

Captain Tagon is still worrying his subordinate.
Sometimes, one heads towards a disaster because it's the only possibility that things won't end up awful.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Radio. I don't remember what Pereri-Sashik is.
"Pereri" is from Espererin, -Sashik was also the ending of the colony Toughs have encountered before (Baskin-Sashik) so it may be just how the species calls their branches?

My takeaway, given that, is that this is probably another Esspererin, although I'm not certain what this is leading to. Maybe an Esspererin would have some sort of backup memory or extra senses that will inform us more on who the Grassy Knoll Long Gunner is?
Ah. It was Para's Sashiko. Which... our medic has never worked on before.
I do not remember what that thing is. In fact I don't remember it ever being shown before and was expecting to have it explained in the next few pages.
Nope. Para looted it during the skirmish against Esspererin. She even used it as a trojan horse in that arc a bit later.
It's basically biomechanical Power Armor esspes use.

Pieces of the future. Also, is it just me or are Ob'enn ship names getting slightly more self-aware of their pretentiousness?
Probably not en-masse, it's just that one captain that maybe liked being ironic. Or maybe they mean it seriously as a threat, indicating the ineffectiveness as being an extra torturous death they deliver.
In other news, I made a recap page for the comic. Or rather, an index. Haven't gotten around to doing the individual pages yet, but all the redlinks are there if someone wants to start.
Oi you! White haired older dude with the moustache! Keep yer voice down!
Yeah this is just a really blatant case of someone who shouldn't be that stupid having to be stupid for the sake of a joke. And since there's no logical reason for him to be that stupid, Chinook's just going to magically not hear it so the story can ignore it.
Wait one second here. Is this implying that Tenzy is the one behind the long-guns? Because that makes no sense.
I think it's just more dark A.I. humor.
Yeah, I got the same impression as Discar here. That might just be some cute humor, and maybe context will make it clearer, but this looks like a real Wham Line to me.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. If so, Sorlie is in trouble because Tenzy is pointing out that she's the expert on finding long guns.
Poor Sorlie. This is the complete opposite of the NUSPI incident. There, she knew where the object was but not what was inside, but had enough info to extrapolate that it could be a gun. Here, we know there's a gun, but she doesn't have the info to extrapolate where it might be.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Well this answers a question I've had for a while about the targeting of the long gun shots. I've had this theory that the long guns were firing on the most warlike and/or xenophobic civilizations, as they would be the easiest ones to provoke into starting a war that could severely damage life in the galaxy as a whole, and while the map doesn't confirm that it does confirm that the shots are probably not random. They're not just shooting at everyone, they have specific targets.
What's the matter?
As for an automatic malfunction, hopefully nobody would be that stupid. If you want a long-gun to fire within milliseconds of a MAD failure, you put it under the control of an AI. But it's a big galaxy, and you only need a few idiots with a long-gun for something like that to happen.
