I don't recall that being a rule so much as an observed pattern, but I could be forgetting something.

There was definitely a universe where a male Tedd and female Elliot (Ellen in other universes?) were together, prompting a Squick reaction from Tedd. I personally think that Elliot and Tedd are close enough, both through friendship in the Prime universe and through destiny, for their friendship to be more than that given that their sexualities are compatible. But as far as I know, "compatible sexuality = pairing" as a whole might not be canon - though I'd love to be wrong, I've recently gotten into a Elliot/Tedd shipping mood for some reason.

The funny thing about this development is that I wrote down a oneshot fanfiction that paired Elliot and Tedd up in the setting of a yuri anime about a day before Friday's comic went up. I thought I was being crazy and fanboyish to pair them up like that, and then Dan implies that Tedd might actually be attracted to Elliot - or be able to be attracted to Elliot - in some capacity in the Prime universe a day later.

IIRC, wasn't it mentioned earlier that Dan's writing this arc on the fly? I've been thinking about that. Part of the problem with writing by the seat of your pants is that paying off on foreshadowing becomes a lot harder when you have no idea where you're going. So far, nothing's really happened that warranted this surprised reaction from Pandora.

She's been surprised throughout the NP arc, certainly, but in an intellectual way. Not in a "WTF did I just watch" kind of way.

This is the first point that really feels like it's going to fulfill the criteria for ensuing hijinx.

"I decided that after this earlier comic with Pandora, the first person hit with Kitty's spell absolutely had to be male. Given that this is canon, however, it couldn't be someone who would strongly object and make a big scene about it.

@24735 Isn't most of Shive's writing on the fly? I mean, he plans some stuff, but he fills in most of the details as he writes (which I suspect is why he ends up doing filler way too often).

As for the adults knowing... Tedd's rationale is reasonable, but he doesn't deal with Arthur directly (and it was suggested that Arthur is playing some sort of long game, which Tedd isn't privy to at all), and Edward Verres might have just thrown that into "Tedd doesn't need to know." I know Tedd skated by for a long time by the comic bending over to prove him right, but I don't think he caught on yet that he shouldn't just make assumptions.

That said, honestly, it's kind of moot - it's not like Tedd's dad can do much about it, and they probably don't want to deal with Arthur directly.

He's a goth. Eyeshadow and lipstick are fair game there.

I had the same reaction, Madinoc, particularly given there's that one Goth girl character (as Tobias noted, Liz) who had already shown up who looked very similar.

Quick question, what do you guys think would be a good name for a male Grace? I'm writing a bunch of fanfic one-shots about alternate universe characters where the characters are occasionally gender-swapped, and I have an idea that involves a male Grace.

I was thinking something like Grant, but I dunno. Someone else suggested Gray, but something about the name doesn't sit right (it's a dumb thing, but on top of the shaky reasoning it doesn't strike me as much of a name, especially as a first name - unless your name ends in Delisle). I'm also open to names that derive from Shade Tail, considering that I think EGS-Prime's Grace isn't a given in all universes and her real name in the Prime and Lord Tedd universe is Shade Tail, but I dunno.

I guess it depends on if you count Grace as Shade Tail, or as the Lycanthorpe Project scientist guy's daughter pre-accident. I mean Grace is Grace, but she's this universe's Shade Tail and that entity seems to be tied to Tedd and the group as opposed to the scientist guy's daughter... I dunno, trying to play by EGS' canon is confusing.

The obvious answer is Grayson. (Yes, that's an actual name.)

I like Grant, that would probably have been my suggestion.

Shade Tail is a code name. Kinda like a title. Whether or not an AU version of the project winds up being Grace, it would probably still have the name Shade Tail. That just might not be the character's only name, as Grace demonstrates.

The death of Grace Sciuridae makes Grace one of the more flexible characters to work with in an AU, I think, because any Shade Tail you create doesn't necessarily have to have all or even anything in common with our Grace. She's a lot like Ellen in that regard; even if the Shade Tail project exists in whatever world you create, even if the Sciuridae family exists, the circumstances won't necessarily produce Grace.

Just about anyone you could imagine can be that universe's Shade Tail.

"Grant" is also the one I'd go with, as it's common enough in regular use. "Grayson" is closer in pronunciation, but it's a bit more unusual as a first name. From what I can find, interestingly, "Ray" (albeit from Scottish roots instead of Latin) as a name has the same meaning as "Grace," if you prefer that route (also, has the advantage of phonetically being within the original's name).
