I think when discussing Tennant as an actor, it's important to remember that he's also having to act with a fake accent in Who. I don't know if that's also the case for Hamlet, JJ, or Fright Night, but.

I have no real problems with Tennant as an actor or a person.

It's just that the character he played in Who isn't one I like.

He uses the same fake accent in Fright Night and Jessica Jones as he does in Doctor Who. Can't say about Hamlet.

...man, Tennant as Jerry in the version of Fright Night I'm writing could work, honestly. I'd say "well Jessica Jones has already hit the salient points I'm going to", but then so has iZombie and yet I've headcasted David Anders as Jerry anyway.

The bigger obstacle is that I've already tailored all of Jerry's dialogue to Anders. He's fun to write for. I'm not sure Tennant would be.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

I mean, no accounting for taste, but Tennant seems like he'd be a joy to right for to me.

I endorse this.

So my otherhalf was listing people who have plaid the Doctor today, and I found myself attempting to correct her when she said "Catherine Tate" I am ashamed and a fool.

I should rewatch Journeys End, what with the added context of the Face The Raven three parter.

The movie adaptation of Hamlet by the RSC, with Tennant in the title role, can be found in its entirety on You Tube. It's really good.

So, funny story, over on the Planet Mondas forum somebody took unnoun's Newtons Sleep post, conflated unnoun with me, and concocted a lengthy story of having gotten in touch with me and subsequently my godfather to track down the missing episodes.

I just poured some cold water on it.

Delightful!

In other news, I know Whitehouse isn't well like here, but Rita from the God Complex is just the best thing and I regularly think how she is the closest depiction to my ideal companion there has been on the show.

Yeah, it's not nearly as charming as one would hope, as the poster (apparently a known serial fabulist on the forum) is now suggesting they've gotten in touch with unnoun's godfather, despite my politely noting that unnoun is quite protective of her privacy and that it's actively cruel to lie about her in that manner.

I mean. For starters, it's been twenty going on thirty years.

And, also, like, I sorta mentioned this in the comments section for that article, but.

Like, the "missing episodes" in question are not, like, tapes from the BBC that my godfather rescued.

We are talking about a man who for some reason had a big 60s film camera on a tripod and pointed it at his telly because obsession.

And not, like, an HD camera. Not, like, a widescreen hd telly set.

And, like. He wasn't exactly a professional? One time the lens cap was on for a bit, another time his cat walked in front of the screen.

At least, as he explained it. For a moment I thought the old kitty I liked to play with was Dr. Who's arch nemesis or something. That was a cool minute for seven year old me.

And a lot of the stories he filmed have been found. Like, except The Celestial Toymaker, which I sincerely hope is never recovered in any quality.

Like, I remember it being really dull. I was a little upset because of the accent and the outfits and the N-word. It was, overall, an unpleasant experience.

I'm not even sure whether filming old episodes is technically legal? Like. I dunno how the copyright on that works? I don't want to find my godfather just to get him in trouble.

I mean, even poorly shot footage would be of tremendous value. Value massively in excess of any copyright concerns. So I'd certainly follow up the lead you have if it were my lead to follow. But of course it's not, and I don't fault you in the least for not being inclined to.

I'm more troubled by crazy guy who claims he's contacted both of us and is meeting with your godfather this weekend.

Yeah that's weird.

I'm glad he's not crazy enough to actually contact me though. That'd be scary.

I can't speak for UK law, but in the US, recording for personal use is legal. The precedent was for the VCR, but it should include amateur telecine.

And at this point, the BBC would probably love to get their hands on anything salvageable.

The BBC will reward people with a free giant Dalek for lost episodes.

As for a new companion, I agree on a minority being a good idea, but a British one, not an American one, so an Irish or South Asian one.

South Asian Muslim has been my ideal for some time now. Possibly second generation?

What generation beyond not first wouldn't be important, honestly I'd expect at least third, as they'd want to avoid having either the companion or their parents be non-British, as its felt that the companion has to be a mid twenties, British, women.

Our racial communities don't all integrate fully, so you easily get many generations that are still racially the same as natives of their home country.

I'm not sure on religion, honestly it may be to complicated and be something that simply is avoided, with the character being a possible Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani.

Honestly religion coming up at all sounds weird, I'm trying to think when a companion's religion has been an actual thing.

Yeah that's kind of weird that the companions never interact with the topic of religion, even when the stories they're in do. I think someone in the RTD era had a silver cross necklace? I might be thinking about a friend.

When the companions do interact with region its usually when a villainous cult try to sacrifice them to resurrect an ancient evil.tongue
