For me, it's not that I don't like Martha, but she's not especially interesting or unique. She's an intelligent, cool-headed doctor-in-training with a strong sense of family and a crush on her too-old-and-too-smart-for-her friend. Not a bad character, really, but in the Whoniverse and the fictional world on a whole, she's a dime a dozen.
Sally, on the other hand, broke into an old house because it would be a neat place to photograph, uttered the phrase "Sad is happy for deep people," and whatever fan-base she has she won over in a single episode. Markedly more impressive than Martha "Just another human reference point for the audience" Jones.
Between Martha, Grace and Liz, I'm beginning to wonder whether having an actual doctor as a companion is a good idea.
YKTTW Salvage ListMy answer to that would be yes.
So I got this nifty face-morphing software and ran the faces of various Doctor Who characters through it. Let's see the results.
1. Seven + Ace
2. Amy + Eight
3. Three + Donna
4. Nine + Ten
5. Five + Tegan
6. Nine + Romana I

YKTTW Salvage ListFive hours to go...
Well, that rocked. That was brilliant.
Gaah, someone needs to put it on youtube!!!
Oh wait, lol, it's only been like ah hour. Stupid time difference, throwing me off.

It was awesome, although much like the last Torchwood finale, bleaker than I expected. It's one of the darker episodes, I think.
"The End of Time" looks to be pretty epic...

YKTTW Salvage ListMy word, this is not going to end well...
Do you think they're trying to soften the blow for all of the rabid Ten fans by making him into an unsympathetic megalomaniac?
They really seem to be going down the hubris and nemesis route, to me.
He didn't seem unsympathetic to me. More wildly idealistic, and overconfident. He's always had more than a degree of arrogance. He was trying to save lives, after all, so it's not like he meant any harm.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffWell, it seems to me like the Doctor's arrogance and heroism are simply taken to thier logical conclusion.

^Ditto on the spoilered bit.
The tone felt very Torchwood, (what with the suicide and doom) but I've always wanted him to say nuts to fixed points and do his own thing. Even if it did end badly.

I thought somewhat the opposite. I kept hoping that he would just leave, let history take its course, and not have a repeat of The Fires of Pompeii where heends up being responsible for all the deaths. I was thinking, "Doctor, get out before you end up being/having been a part of events." I more or less agree with the Wild Mass Guessing section "The Doctor will soon have to answer for wrecking the time line."
After all, to him its just some harmless saving of lives, but to the "Little people" who have to take The Slow Path he's basically like the Borg in Star Trek: First Contact.

I haven't seen any episodes featuring the Meddling Monk, but isn't this precisely the type of thing the Doctor tried to prevent him from doing?
I'm also wondering what on Earth plot hole the Reapers fell into...

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffSimple. The Reapers weren't hungry, so they decided to let this meal go. Besides, they'd probably still be distracted by what the hell happened to Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde in the recent story of the Sarah Jane Adventures which shows a future where they dissapeared and Rani is a mad old woman. In that episode, the timeline was revised in... 2059, the same time as this episode. If anything, the Reapers would look into that instead.
Dammit, I missed Sarah Jane season 3. Until it's on DVD, I'm going to try and forget I read that.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffSo, the new season's started, yes?
Season of what? Doctor Who, or The Sarah Jane Adventures?
The latter is nearly finished and I've missed it, dammit. The former is still on the same "series" as it was the last time you asked, i.e. 4 specials with large gaps in between each.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The Staff@ Bobby G: You could always try BBC iPlayer.
And on the subject of the Reapers: since we never actually see Mia and Yuri after they dissapear into the darkness, maybe the Reapers do arrive and try to feast on them... and fail. In fact, there should be a WMG which says that the Doctor mounts the TARDIS on top of one of the Reapers and rides it all the way back to the Time War to bring back the Time Lords. There's a whole lot we don't know about that damn finale...
@ Matrix: Since you asked: Yes, still Ten, although by telling you this I'm significantly reducing the drama of today's episode. I expect he'll regenerate during next Christmas' special.
@ Marc: iPlayer's no good. It doesn't go back as far as the beginning, and I'm determined to watch it in broadcast order.

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffSpeaking of which, am I the only one who thought that Adelaide was going to shoot the Doctor when she pulled out her gun at the end?
@ Bobby G: Does it really matter that much? I jumped into the series at the second serial, and I didn't feel left out. But it seems like iPlayer has deleted most of them, so no joy there.

^am I the only one who was hoping?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a die-hard ten fan, but that was very much a "You need to get shot" moment for me. Add a little drama to the ending there. Besides, her shooting him meant that she wasn't shooting herself, and I wanted the timeline to change.
Is it me, or does Sally Sparrow have more of a fan base than even Martha Jones?
