It's what Madwa does- kill people and magically disappear.
Is she, perhaps, a Sparky Smoke Knight?
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!Well, considering female Sparks for around 18 years tended to get plugged into Lu's Imprinting machine... Either Madwa's not a Spark, or she got lots of practice in her sneaky Batman act dodging people who wanted to do that to her.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettOr she isn't a strong enough Spark to attract Lucretia's attention? There were lots of women who were low-level Sparks in the Circus.
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!I'm pretty sure Madwa is mentioned to be an old Smoke Knight and what little we've seen of her does make her look old if quite physically fit.
Since they were looking for young female Sparks, she wouldn't be a target if she is a Spark.
Aaronev didn't strike me as being exactly picky when it came to test subjects. And the Circus Sparks were actively hiding their Sparkiness to avoid being murdered/used in just that fashion (tho they didn't know about Aaronev specifically.)
Quoting something that was in a game some days ago: There is fit, and there is FIT.
Not to mention that Smoke Knights can work like Old Barbarian Heroes in the disk. The older they get the harder they are to crack.

Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Well, allllrighty then.
Bets on whether it is Madwa's body?
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettI think it must be (I hope it is, because she's not a very interesting villain) Bets on Agatha revivifying old Tiktok? remember, he WAS supposed to help her with the timeywimey stuff. -where's the lantern?
DoodlesWhatever's actually going on, I'm just glad she didn't disappear in a puff of smoke. (I don't like her either, she is/was so over-powered.)
After spening the whole Paris arc barely finding what they looked for but failing at it, it is getting solved pretty fast this time.
Assuming the lantern is actually here.
My bet is that Zardilev time-travel shenanigans, like he used the lantern to create a temporary parallel branch or pre-rewind time or whatnot so that they reappear later on in the submarine once the course is clear.
Other possibilities are they tried to do something like that, and it misfired, or some third party killed them - but I'd find it surprising that they remind us today that Zardilev is a spark, but he dies before doing anything sparky.
Maybe they find the results of whatever Sparky thing he was trying to do?

Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettSeems a little sloppy to assume they're dead before the autopsy.
If they are dead, I'm inclined to agree that either it had something to do with the lantern, or someone killed them and took the lantern. It's much to early to recover the lantern, in my opinion.
I wish they hadn't killed off King Andy so quickly. While he threatened to deviate the plot, he was more interesting than Madwa. Also: I wonder where Prende is.
"Give sorrow words; The grief that does not speak knits up the o'er-wrought heart, and bids it break." William Shakespeare - MacbethHot damn, another plot twist (and another, and another, and . . . )
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!
Especially in this universe!

Flashback Friday.
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Huh... Was that Bill? If so, like father, like daughter.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It's odd. I like the style of the new version, but I think the composition of the old version is better.
agreed
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!Although the new one's decoration isn't as scary.
Krosp would totally do that, too.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettThe other one has a greater sense of depth, and is cleaner overall.
