Aren't we the optimist!
And rather than certain death, it's far more likely they're going be threatened with wasping via that miniature hive-engine that Madame Velix is lugging around.

So, if push comes to shove, what are the forces in presence?
On one side: an angry Larana, an excited Hoffman, cheerful Dimon & Zeetha (if they don't think the situation is worrying, it probably isn't), a milsly annoyed Agatha, and unseen - a small army of dingbots, and three experienced smoke nights.
On the other side: Cheyenne (does he do anything apart from ranting?), the Geister of the Opera, and a bunch of not-very-impressive-looking mooks.
Still, I don't expect a fight right away.
Well, don't be too surprised if one does break out and Larana ends up being queen once the Geister kills Cheyenne just as Violetta skewers her from behind and mook-brains splash on the walls and floor. You go, Zeetha!
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!I wonder how responsive the Geister and others will be if Agatha goes all ticked-off Command Voice.

This is an automated program that checks the Sneaky Gate every 5 minutes. source codeHer face when the Geister chimes in. All kinds of fed up combined with that post-performance review where you constantly have to correct them when they repeatedly use the wrong name.

Wow. This/these two idiots are the ones the Other put in charge of wasping Paris? My respect and fear plummets.
You know, I actually did raise an eyebrow last week when I saw they'd let him keep the helmet despite the Go-Go Enslavement, but I didn't think it'd actually have any payoff.
Yay! Action, humor, the plot moves forwards, and a cliffhanger - the Foglios are good at this, I feel most lesser writers would have taken three times as many pages to tell the same story.
I love that Ancient Tradition :D
I feel like I'm reading an episode of The Goon Show

For some reason, I am not entirely surprised that there's rules permitting usurption of the throne in at least one of the kingdoms. I also find it hysterical.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettI bet Larana gets a really good grade in applied polysci
Well what kind of villain wouldn't seen the hopeless idiots first, it is in the Code or something.
Well here goes nothingI don't think it's Andronicus.
Well, turns out I wasn't optimistic enough. Still, I got the stages more or less correct, even if it only took one episode to go through them all!
Now, who is talking off-panel?
It sounds like Tarvek. Did he manage to smoke-knight the titanium-man? Or maybe Othar? Just like him to appear on the scene at the right minute?
Or Mr. Wooster? Sounds a lot like him, too.
I can't see how Mr. Higgs might have gotten here ... unless he knew something was wrong with Zeetha and chased her down.
I thought Othar too. He has the advantage of never needing an explanation as to where he came from.
Yeah, I'd rather it be Tarvek but fear it's Othar. I really, really don't like him.
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!Maybe the Strike Force and their battle cats are back?
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettThat would be a good resolution.
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!I like the idea of the battlecat force. :) So far you have the best idea I think.
I'd love it to be Tarvek, but he's being dragged off to his family. Othar would not be so self-effacing, he announces himself. Gil *was* sent to find Tarvek via the underground route, if he fell for it, then it's not terribly unlikely that he'd reach the underground realms; and I could see him protecting the Library's physical domain, though he's clearly capable of attacking it to rescue a friend. Not sure why Krosp would defend Larana, if it was Agatha, then yes; but he doesn't know Larana is an ally/friend of Agatha's.
Now, it could also be related to the mysterious secret Larana and Aldin share, which might be the most interesting option.
I can't believe Othar or Gil has reached Paris yet. Vi and other two Smoke Knights with some sort of reinforcements would be my guess.
No, because Agatha is standing down with the rest of the ex-prisoners, looking nonplussed, while the voice is coming from above.

My bet is on Agatha and her army of flying dingbots - she hasn't been in the limelight enough recently, she *is* the main character, a mad genius with a small portable flying army after all.
The other obvious choice would be an agent of The Master, or himself.
Not that this narrows it down especially.
Okaaayy. So, the Friday cliffhanger will be the rest of the party being threatened with certain death, Monday to get that sorted out, Wednesday to set up the next story arc, and Friday for the scene change. At least the main plot may get moving along.
