The portal under Cumberland is gone, yes. But other universes have their own portals, most of them in space since it's astronaut Chuck who finds them. Radical!Chuck discovered Cumberland's portal but Prime!Chuck used it. Chuck-causality is stable.

Whoever's responsible for the murder pheromone will make sure that the aftermath of President Funkhouser's death is as terrible as possible. Saving her life is just the first step in possibly-Chuck's plan to save the time stream.

Sure, I expect a For Want Of A Nail thing. But that's a different story from him trying to keep the president alive for its own sake. Why is Funkhouser's survival important enough for a Chuck? That's not a Captain Obvious situation.

The Captain Obvious here is in assuming this ties in with the current plotline. But you're right, we don't know why the president must be kept alive. Given this is Dr. Mcninja we're talking about, it could literally be anything.

With prez funkhouser dead, nothing was able to stop Franz from finally taking over the USA as president. The time traveler is actually Doc trying to prevent himself from inadvertently helping Franz.

Assuming the pheromone theory is correct. Even if he was affected, Doc had a point about the secret service guys that jumped through the window being outside.

Maybe it was sprayed around on the grounds.

The pheromone thing was Funkhouser's own theory. There's nothing saying that's what actually the reason.

Yeah, this is the same president who failed to notice that the presidential mech had been scrapped due to budget cuts until it was time to suit up. "I dunno, pheromones or something" was just her off the cuff theory.

If it makes anyone feel better, the good Doctor is as tired of this shit as we are.
