Just because it's not a literal translation, doesn't mean it's a mistranslation.
I didn't find Hinata particularly flattering in that picture either. She looks weird and the lipstick (or what looks like lipstick) doesn't work for her.

The concept itself doesn't translate well so going with a common expression that does very well fit the description isn't a mistranslation to me. If it's important or heavily commented on viewers will pick up on it. And if it's a recurring thing, they'll also notice the pattern.
Somethings just don't translate well and you make do with what does.
