To be fair, Nagato answer to peace was basically: use a giant superweapon to blow up country, make people peaceful through the fear of it, eventually peace gets forgotten and villages/countries fight over weapon, it gets use, blows up country, people fear it again, and rinse and repeat until another solution comes, or all of humanity has been wiped from existence.

Also, is it Ashura or Asura now?

Nagato didn't beleive in a better solution coming, He had firmly surrendered to Cynicism, that humans are bastards and they never change.

Oh come on, Nagato is my third favorite character, I also resent that the story's new reincarnation B.S. means that all his goals were in vain from the beginning, and I still think that his ordering the murders of 6 Jinchuuriki and planning to build a super-weapon can be firmly counted as "sinful."

Fuck, I think the real world is "too optimistic" for Nagato's plan to be considered acceptable, poetic as the connection to our bittersweet reality of potential nuclear annihilation is.

Nagato's plan is essentially what we have in the real world: the fear of mutually assured destruction. Would he like for everyone to hold hands and be friends? Of course he would. But he knew that wasn't gonna happen so he was gonna make sure that everyone understood going to war meant many, many people would die.

Mutually assured destruction kinda requires more than one guy to have super weapons.

technically the nuke jutsu would be the Juubi.

though seeing how easy it is to control,it wouldnt matter much.

He was gonna let it be accessible by any nation. "Oh shit, we used it. Now someone else is gonna use it. Oh, everyone died. We're too afraid of this thing to fight anymore [for a couple of generations, anyway]."

When you think about it, Nagato would've had to come to blows with Obito eventually. He had his own plan going on that's the direct opposite of Obito's.

I prefer it because it at least makes some form of sense, instead of Naruto's apparently never thought of before idea of everyone being friends to make the world peaceful. What is gonna happen in the future when someone feels angry at being jilted and has access to super ninja powers? Naruto couldn't logically end the 'cycle of hatred' or whatever simply because, even if everyone in the world right now were to stop hating, new people would eventually be born and have the potential to hate each other.

Even though he's at least as emo as they are, I still find Pain a far more interesting character than the Uchiha villains.

And this is why he was the best villain. You're never going to sell me the idea that the hope of a frightened, stagnant peace is preferable to frightened, volatile war/neutrality. But nonetheless it shocks people into getting results, and the fact that it is a time-tested way to get results gives the plan a dark edge of validity. Nagato possesses a genuine, authoritative cynicism and world-weariness to him that Obito and Madara lack.

Of course, Obito's whole character is built around a sort of naivete gone dark (mirroring Naruto's own naivete), so it works for him, even though I don't find him as compelling.

Know what's also kinda sad? Pain's original "rule the world with economics" plan was the best one to date of all the bad guys' schemes

It wasn't silly enough for this manga.

It lacks "You didn't love me enough" vibe.

It can't be stopped by Naruto pretending to be psychiatrist.

If only he had Itachi's method of "**** it, I'm gonna mind **** you into accepting my point regardless... and i'll get painted as a saint for doing it!"

What was the chapter where Pain explained his economics plan? I want that for lulz.

Grabbed my Volume 36 and checked. It's 329.

But seriously, look at that original Akatsuki plan. It feels like it's in a whole other series now, but Kishimoto used to be lucid enough to come up with this stuff. That plan was beautiful.

Now I have even more contempt.

Grabbed Volume 61. He actually only got an 8 chapter battle, and 3 of those were flashbacks.

and yet that still gave him more depth then the 20+ chapters on Obito and his its not about Rin
