• Alternative Character Interpretation: The podcast is very divisive among music fans, mainly because of the hosts themselves. Some find Mark and Tyler to be genuinely funny guys that offer blunt-but-valid critiques of Sacred Cow bands and an all-around sharp satire of people who take their musical tastes too seriously. Others find them to be self-important hipsters who deliberately take an annoyingly contrarian stance on everything and are more bullish than funny.
• Anvilicious: As mentioned above, the show’s critics often accuse it of being far too heavy-handed and bullish with its anti-Creator Worship message. Particularly when it falls into Fan Hater territory.
• Fandom Rivalry: With fans of Pat Finnerty and his "What Makes This Song Stink?" series of videos. This is despite the fact that "What Makes This Song Stink?" just covers specific songs, while "Your Favorite Band Sucks" covers the bands themselves.
