- Nightmare Fuel: During the creation of the Amazons, as part of her tribute, Artemis' appearance takes on that of a centaur-like creature with the top half being exposed muscle while the bottom, centaur-half, is made entirely of deer antlers.
- Tear Jerker: Hippolyta being given the duty of having to leave the unwanted baby girl exposed in the wilderness as the father of said child wanted a boy. Something the narration notes was a commonly accepted cultural practice at the time but no less horrifying, and which Hippolyta is clearly not comfortable with.
