YMMV / Wise Child

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Does Maeve love Wise Child at all, or does she merely see her as a tool to use at best and an unwanted burden at worst? Tons of evidence point towards the latter, as Maeve was abusive towards her in the past and only returns to offer her the chance to live with her after she has already been taken in by Juniper (implying she wanted her back simply to spite her rival). But her gift to Wise Child early on (a stone that summons her when used) might hint that she wants her to live with her more than she will admit, and Wise Child notices that Maeve occasionally goes into her bedroom to look at her when she is supposedly asleep, which could mean anything.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Wise Child is a downplayed version. She starts off as somewhat of a Spoiled Brat (and is disparaged for it by all her cousins save for Colman), but between a father who's never around and a mother who abused and abandoned her when she was younger, it's no wonder she's not the nicest kid before Juniper comes along.
  • The Woobie: Cormac more than qualifies. He was once a handsome knight who loved a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage and was forced to flee for his life when her husband found out, and shortly afterwards was afflicted horrifically by leprosy for the rest of his life. His own brother showed No Sympathy and told him his condition was a punishment from God, and he's treated as a village outcast and pelted with stones by children for being a leper. Only Juniper ever showed him kindness.
