YMMV / Welcome to Chippendales

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack is stacked with big hits from the time period, from artists such as Iggy Pop, KISS, Donna Summer, Sister Sledge and Blondie.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Steve Banerjee lacks social skills but is extremely good with calculations.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Dorothy Stratten, played by Nicola Peltz, only appears in the first episode, but she attracted the sympathy and interest of many viewers because of her charisma and, of course, her tragic outcome. It also culminated in a re-interest on the internet in her tragic real story.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: While much of the cast has sparked interest from audiences (including those who read "Kumail Nanjiani" and "Chippendales" in the same sentence and erroneously thought he'd be one of the dancers), a surprising amount of it came from fans of Lab Rats, hot off that show's Colbert Bump, when Spencer Boldman was announced to have joined the cast as Lance McCrae. Notably, this is Boldman's first project since 2018's Cruise, which was also a Robert Siegel venture.
  • Playing Against Type: Comedian Kumail Nanjiani in a dramatic role.
  • Spiritual Successor: Not so much the series, but Steve has a very similar character arc as Walter White. Both start out as very sympathetic characters the audience can root for. Over time we realize they are both driven more by personal pride than anything else. By the end both are full on villains who don’t give a second thought to killing to preserve their wealth. After being caught both end up sacrificing their lives to ensure financial stability for their families. The fact that both are played by established comedic actors playing against type is a notable bonus as well.
