* FanPreferredCouple: Nearly everyone was shipping their PC with Sem in the first game. Then the second game came out, and they can now be an OfficialCouple if they so choose.

Word cruft.

** All three of the bosses in the sequel: Clay for being a LightningBruiser who will ''not'' hold back for a fourteen-year-old; [[spoiler:Semryu]] for having [[spoiler:powerful Ice magic and being even ''stronger'' than Clay]]; and [[spoiler:Jun]] for ''ambushing'' you while you're weak and tired. Thankfully they're all optional.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Jun, owing to the different sides that come out depending on your relationship with them. People who like them love how sweet, dorky and idealistic they can be, to the point some wish it was actually possible to be more than a RomanticRunnerUp for them. Meanwhile, people who hate them cite their hypocrisy, HolierThanThou attitude and [[spoiler:the way they try to murder you in the second game]] as hallmarks of a rival they LoveToHate at best or outright cannot wait to be rid of at worst.

* TheScrappy: Jun isn't that liked for being rather hypocritical and self-righteous if you don't immediately agree with what they say, and for [[spoiler:potentially trying to ''murder'' you in the second game]].

* MoralEventHorizon:
** InUniverse, trying to convert people to the Red is considered this, and being accused of it is why Illyan is facing trial.
** It requires a bit of random generation, but [[spoiler:Professor Cael giving the PC harder tests in the second game becomes this if they have the [[ForgetfulJones Ulic flaw]]. Deliberately making things harder for a kid with brain damage isn't just an abuse of authority, it's plain cruelty. [[DevelopersForesight The author has promised that this will be addressed in the third book]].]]
** [[spoiler:If Jun is your rival, the point they go from "irritating hypocrite" to "downright reprehensible" is the point where they try to murder you.]]

Badass is no longer a trope.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Sem is '''massively''' popular amongst the fanbase, for being a [[DeadpanSnarker cheeky]], [[{{Keet}} jovial]] and {{Badass}} vampire with loads of HiddenDepths. The author took note of this and made him a LoveInterest in the second game.

* ThatOneBoss: [[spoiler:'''The ice wraith'''. Unless you are highly skilled in either Rosin or Montage, you ''cannot'' defeat it, and will most likely die in the battle.]]
** Clay in the sequel. It makes sense in-universe--he's been training for two years, while the PC is most likely recovering from a major injury and, at most, has had a few weeks of training. Thus it's likely you'd be unable to hit him, while having a hard time dodging his attacks. Still frustrating though.
** [[spoiler:Semryu]], also in the sequel. At best you can go for a MutualKill, and that alone is hard to pull off thanks to [[spoiler:his powerful Ice magic and dueling experience]].
** [[spoiler:Jun]], [[RuleOfThree again in the sequel]], mostly because the boss ''ambushes'' you while you're weak and tired. Thankfully this is only triggered on runs when you have a high [[TheCorruption Red]], so as long as you're either good or careful about how evil you are, you can avoid them.
