• Adaptation Displacement: Guests that flock to this show often have no clue of the movie's existence. It's extremely telling that in both Japan and Beijing, the show was expanded into its own immersive mini-land years after the show first opened, all in spite of the Waterworld film obviously being a near non-entity in those places.
  • This is occasionally lampshaded in the pre-show. At some shows, actors playing atoll residents will interact with children in the audience and ask them what atoll they were from. If the kid is confused, one of the actors will ask them if they have seen the movie, and if they say no (which is often) they will reassure them with "Oh don't worry, nobody else did either!"
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show is just as, if not more popular with Japanese audiences at Universal Studios Japan, where the show even received its own dedicated mini-area.
• More Popular Spin Off: Since its opening, the show has become better received and recognized than the movie it's based off of.
• Signature Scene: Deacon's seaplane crash, in which the prop is launched through an explosion towards the audience, splashing them in the process.
