• Harsher in Hindsight: Wardlow's feud with MJF could be basically summed up as a contract dispute (in Kayfabe, Wardlow was not signed with AEW, but rather was contracted directly under MJF, which meant that he was allowed to wrestle on his own volition in AEW so long as he remained loyal to his employer), which included MJF insulting Wardlow as being "greedy". Just as the time for the blow-off match of the feud came, MJF got involved in a legitimate contract dispute with AEW involving MJF's pay.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: Not Wardlow himself, but rather his match with MJF at Double or Nothing 2022 quickly became this when it was reported that MJF no showed a meet and greet a day before the pay-per-view and wasn't answering his phone, which was just coming off of continuous rumors that MJF wasn't happy being in AEW and was pushing for Tony Khan to raise his pay. It was later reported that a flight to leave Las Vegas (where Double or Nothing was set to take place) was booked under his name, causing excitement for the match to turn into fear as fans questioned if he would even show up for the match. While the match ultimately did happen, it still caused what was meant to be a feel-good moment for Wardlow to become a conspiracy theory-ridden rabbit hole both for the match as well as MJF in the future.^note While MJF's pipebomb and subsequent absence following Double or Nothing are most likely a worked shoot, his gripes with his pay prior to the pay-per-view and his no-show at the meet and greet were all reported as genuine.
