• Moral Event Horizon: Early on, whilst Nick was still in his prime bastard stage, he passes a group of travelers and trades them their gun and ammo in exchange for his broken sniper rifle. He convinced them it was fully functional and that you could take down a tank with it. They walk away to their death while he makes off with their supply and a skip in his step.
  • Not to mention Gregory shooting the traincar full of children, Kyle kidnapping Nick and abandoning Rob. Even Nick himself seems to dance around this line with some of the things he does (see the gun-trading above). He finally truly seems to cross it when he goes full on Ax-Crazy on those at the research facility.
• Nightmare Fuel: The man in the subway tunnels. Listening to him going off alone in the darkness to shoot a witch while listening to this can really keep you awake.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Terry's death.
  • Also when Nick leaves Sean and Isaac with the other carriers at Eight Springs so that he can continue searching for Ellis, Rochelle, and Coach.
  • When Rob gets mauled and loses his left ear, everything in the story indicates he is gonna die soon. Fortunately, he does manage to get better. Doubles as a Heartwarming Moment.
  • From Bad to Worse. After 30-some-odd chapters together, across several weeks, states, and fighting the odds together, Rob and Nick finally part ways, in the form of the guy transporting them drugging Nick and tossing Rob out in the snow.
